JOB DESCRIPTION
Feingold Flowergrowers are currently seeking enthusiastic and proactive Nursery Workers to join our team. Our farm is across two hectares of glasshouse, consisting of Phalaenopsis, Anthurium’s and a few other indoor plants. Located in Lyndhurst, in between Eastlink and Western Port Hwy.
JOB TITLE
Nursery Worker – Full Time
REPORTS TO
The Nursery Worker will report to the Farm Supervisors and Operations Manager.
JOB OVERVIEW
Assist with overall glasshouse management of plants, under directions from supervisors or operations manager. Planting, managing the health and growth of plants. Actively watering, trimming and ensuring plant health is maintained at all times. Picking and packing weekly orders.
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
Planting– a Nursery Worker is to plant, following the guidelines regarding soil depth and composition, as directed by supervisor or manager.
Prepare plants for sale by staking, trimming to encourage healthy growth and removing diseased or unwanted shoots and leaves
Order Picking– Nursery Workers are required to assist with the selection and picking of plants for sales orders as per order sheets provided from sales office
Packing- Nursery Workers are to assist with the packaging of the selected plants ready for dispatch
The above job tasks are a basic overview and are not limited to just these tasks as there may be additional requirements dependent on plant varieties being grown.
The candidate should ideally have the below requirements for this role.
Experience- have 2 years minimum experience in production of Phalaenopsis orchids and Anthurium plants.
Attention to detail– this role also requires a high level of attention to detail to identify when plants are ready for planting or picking or need special care and attention
Communication skills– greenhouse workers tend to work with teams, so they should be effective verbal communicators and able to coordinate activities during a shift.
Nursery Worker Education and Training
Previous nursery experience is a must.
Forklift License advantageous.
We are looking for staff who learns quickly, acts proactively, always anticipating what needs to be done next, and is willing to take on responsibility.
Even though the aim is for the position to eventually be Full Time and Permanent, the Nursery Worker will be employed in a casual role for a trial period of up to a year.
Business hours are from 7-30am to 4pm Monday to Fri and only occasional Saturday work.
