Job description

An opportunity exists for an Occupational Hygienist to join our national HSE team and report into the Senior Health and Safety Business Partner. This important role is responsible for driving Boral’s national occupational hygiene and health surveillance program. This is a permanent, full-time position located in Perth, WA or Adelaide SA but will support operational sites in WA, SA, and NT. The role will be based at one of various Boral offices including Perth Airport, Orange Grove and Welshpool in WA or Norwood, SA if based in Adelaide. To support the geographic range this position will cover, candidates with flexibility to travel on a regular basis to our sites throughout WA, SA and NT are encouraged to apply. To support you, we will provide you with a Tool of Trade vehicle, phone, laptop and testing equipment.

Your day will involve:

  • Providing technical advice related to occupational hygiene and addressing day-to-day occupational hygiene matters on site, as well as assisting with the strategy and direction for Boral business units regionally
  • Implement and manage an organisational hygiene monitoring program to identify potential hazards in the workplace which may impact the health or wellbeing of the workforce. This includes exposure monitoring, accurate and timely reporting and recommending controls.
  • Work both regionally, and as part of the National Health & Hygiene Team, in ensuring that Boral meets its legal/regulatory obligations in respect of occupational hygiene and ensuring that management and the workforce are aware of these requirements.
  • Assist with the collection, management, and reporting of occupational hygiene monitoring data within the Boral’s safety management system, and Regulatory reporting, as required.

What are we looking for?

  • Demonstrated experience as an Occupational Hygienist, ideally within a heavy industry or construction.
  • Relevant tertiary qualifications – BSc., BApSc., or equivalent, ideally with tertiary qualifications in Occupational Hygiene.
  • Associate or Full Member of the Australian Institute of Occupational Hygienists (AIOH) will be highly regarded.
  • Practical experience in developing, implementing, and delivering hygiene monitoring programs, including health risk assessments, site monitoring, assessing/recommending controls and delivering accurate and concise reports.
  • Knowledge of statutory requirements relating to occupational hygiene and worker health.
  • Experience providing advice and support in a wide range of hygiene matters (i.e. RCS, asbestos, noise, welding fume, DPM, chemicals, metals, heat stress, and emerging hazards).
  • Well-developed written and verbal communication skills to facilitate the provision of information and training to various business units.
  • Experience in working with data management and reporting software platforms.
  • Drivers Licence
