Summary:
The Occupational Therapist Assistant (OTA) provides support to Occupational Therapists (OT) in assessing, planning, and executing intervention programs that enhance clients' abilities to perform everyday tasks. They work in various healthcare settings and interact with patients of different ages and with diverse conditions.
Responsibilities:
- Assist OTs in evaluating patients' physical, mental, and emotional abilities to identify their needs and goals for intervention programs
- Help develop intervention programs by preparing equipment, setting up therapy sessions, and demonstrating techniques to patients
- Monitor patients' progress and report it to the OTs to adjust intervention plans accordingly
- Teach patients various exercises, activities, and techniques to promote functional independence and improve their quality of life
- Assist patients in performing daily living activities like bathing, dressing, grooming, and eating while enhancing their skills
- Record patients' health information, treatment plans, and results in medical records and other documents
- Collaborate with other healthcare professionals, family members, and caregivers to ensure a comprehensive and effective intervention approach
- Follow ethical and professional standards in delivering care to patients and maintaining confidentiality.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or certificate in Occupational Therapy Assistant program
- State licensure or certification in OTA
- Knowledge of anatomy, physiology, and kinesiology
- Familiarity with different disabilities, conditions, and psychosocial factors that affect clients' abilities
- Ability to work individually and in a team, communicate effectively, and show empathy and patience towards patients
- Proficiency in using various tools and equipment for intervention programs
- Understanding and adherence to professional ethics and standards.
