What you will be doing
- Work collaboratively with the local Manager to deliver holistic, place-based and trauma-informed occupational therapy services.
- Provide specialist occupational therapy expertise and advice for customers requiring home modifications, transfers, tenancy management or housing assistance.
- Communicate effectively and sensitively with people from different cultures and backgrounds, particularly First Nations peoples having an awareness and understanding of protocols and issues impacting on Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities to facilitate improved service delivery and customer outcomes.
- Work closely with allied health service partners to flexibly deliver services to customers on-line, by telephone or in person with a focus on safety, service excellence and quality outcomes.
- Contribute to the design and review of new accessible social housing properties.
- Provide a consultative service to department staff and other agencies about the housing needs of customers who have a disability, long-term health condition or who are ageing.
- Demonstrate leadership by modelling and fostering professionalism, accountability and ethical behaviour.
- Support and help maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning workplace health and safety are applied and a part of day-to-day operations.
- Prepare and maintain high quality reports and customer records consistent with departmental and professional requirements.
- Contribute to professional development, research, team planning and decision-making and the continuous improvement of policies and practices.
- Have the opportunity to supervise students and mentor new staff.
- Support and help maintain a workplace safety culture by ensuring that all policies and practices concerning Workplace Health and Safety are applied and a part of day-to-day operations.
What we are looking for
- Experience in providing occupational therapy services to people with complex needs.
- Ability to acquire expert proficiency in home modification solutions.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and sensitively with internal and external stakeholders.
- A positive and balanced approach to managing conflicting demands and assisting team members to adapt to changing customer needs/expectations
- Cultural capability with people from diverse backgrounds.
- Ability to model professional, ethical, and culturally sensitive behaviour and consistently apply those standards to yourself and others.
Mandatory requirements
- Class C Driver's License.
- Fieldwork is a regular requirement of this role. Conditions in the field can be changeable requiring varying degrees of situational awareness, vigilance and management of risk.
- Degree or Diploma in Occupational Therapy from a recognised tertiary institution and be registered or eligible for registration with the Occupational Therapy Board of Australia.
