Onsite Caretaker / Chef-Cook

JJJ Infrastructure operates within local government and private residential/commercial building works, with a FIFO/DIDO workforce across Queensland, the Northern Territory and South Australia. We are recruiting for an Onsite Caretaker for an upcoming fixed-term contract starting Monday 13/05/24 at Mount Bundey, NT for approx. a 4-5 month timeframe out of Darwin or Katherine, NT. 
 

This is a temporary 10-person camp supporting our workers for the duration of the project from May to approx. September 2024. This new role is primarily to support our hard-working construction team to ensure they are well looked after in their downtime from work, including cleaning of the facilities and 3 meals a day, to name a few of the role responsibilities. This is remote in location onsite at Mount Bundey, NT and would suit someone who has experience working alone in a small camp-style accommodation premise. 
 

Food and meal preparation for our construction workers are equally as important as looking after and maintaining the cleanliness and upkeep of the facilities; two key factors to the success of this position! 

Duties include but are not limited to: 

• Working remotely and independently (alone) with meal planning and preparation (this is a 100% onsite position).
• Ensuring (HACCP) appropriate hygiene, health & safety in storage, handling, and preparation/cooking of all workers food (including breakfast, cold lunch and hot dinner daily Monday to Saturday).
• Maintaining and cleaning site, kitchen, and camp accommodation facilities.
• Weekly stock control, including travel from remote camp site at Mount Bundey to closest town (Humpty-Doo) 1-hour away by Company vehicle to collect weekly food supplies via click and collect online shopping.
• Adhering to the HACCP methodology, ensuring that all documentation in relation to food safety is maintained daily and periodically throughout the day, including temperature monitoring, stock control and rotation.
• Laundering and maintenance of camp linens and laundry onsite with camp facilities. 
• Minimise waste and ensure the correct and timely disposal of all consumable and waste products (recyclables). 
• Completing manual handling tasks with a keen safety awareness and correct techniques.
• Perform routine cleaning duties in common areas, including but not limited to accommodation rooms, kitchen, laundry, showers, onsite amenities, and recreational spaces.
• Undertaking administrative tasks as required including meal planning, checking company emails, online click and collect food order, timesheets, etc. 
• Computer and Outlook proficiency are a mandatory, as you will be working alone and responsible for the planning, submission, budgeting and ordering of all food and stock for the 10-person camp. 

• Relevant Trade or training certificates as chef, or in nutrition, food preparation, cooking, or similar desirable qualifications or 10+ years experience in a similar role working in a remote location.
• Current First Aid (expires every 3 years) and CPR (expires every 12-months) certificate. 
• HACCP and/or food preparation qualifications desirable or demonstrable experience in a remote location. 
• Experience in a cooking environment (camp or remote experience) and high-volume bulk catering experience advantageous.
• Previous meal planning experience mandatory.
• Ability to keep to a budget and keep accurate records (receipts, emails, ledgers and in/out roster system for camp attendees) and administration.
• Current unrestricted driver’s licence (ability to drive a manual is a bonus!)
• Ability to pass a pre-employment medical, with ongoing random drug and alcohol testing throughout the duration of the fixed-term contract. 

• ABOVE AWARD WAGES: Remuneration is on offer dependent on your skillset and experience and is negotiable. We look after our people and recognise talent! Travel allowance to/from home dependent on where you live, and/or FIFO options are available for NT/QLD residents who are suitably qualified candidates who reside outside of Katherine and Darwin AND who meet ALL key selection criteria in the cover letter/employer questions, along with your current resume. 
• ACCOMMODATION: & MEALS: 3 meals a day and accommodation provided for the duration of the contract.  
• UNIFORMS AND PPE: we will provide you with a full company uniform and steel capped boots. 
• TRAINING: Training and Company inductions, as well as formal and on the job training onsite.
• ROSTER DIDO FROM DARWIN/KATHERINE: arrive at camp Sunday, and leave camp Friday afternoon to head home to Darwin or Katherine! The weekends are yours to enjoy, or should you wish to stay locally for the weekend this can be arranged for the right candidate.
