The Opportunity
The Department of Parliamentary Services (DPS) is recruiting for a Parliamentary Service Level 4 Operational Planner within Security Operations Branch. The Operational Planner will work within the Security Operations Branch to assist with developing and maintaining strong internal and external stakeholder relationships. You will assist with the planning, development and implementation of security overlays to mitigate any identified risks.
Security Division is responsible for broad range of security functions that support the business of DPS. These protective security functions include, security planning, capability, risk, policy, and reporting. The Branch works with many different Australian Parliament House (APH) stakeholders, including the Australian Federal Police (AFP), the Department of the House of Representatives, the Department of the Senate, the Ministerial Wing Support, and other entities within the Parliamentary precincts.

We are seeking a highly motivated and organised Operational Planner to join our dynamic team. As an Operational Planner, you will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth functioning processes with internal and external stakeholders for the daily tasks included in this role.

  • have a high level of organisational and time management skills
Job Specific Requirements:
  • The successful applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a Negative Vetting 1 (Confidential/Highly Protected/Secret) security clearance.

Duty Statement
Classification: Parliamentary Service Level 4
Branch: Security Operations Branch
Section: Operational Planning
Immediate supervisor: Manager Operational Planning
Under limited/general direction undertake duties in accordance with the agreed standards for the Parliamentary Service Level 4 classification. The duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Provide operational advice and support to immediate supervisors and Assistant Directors within the Security Operations Branch.
  • Using sound judgement, process requests, assess risk and develop security overlays for activities within the Parliamentary precinct.
  • Develop and maintain strong internal and external relationships, with a focus on working with stakeholders to develop and implement security overlays to mitigate any identified or potential risks.
  • Produce operational forecasts and other reporting to inform resource allocation and enhance the preparedness of Security Operations Branch.
  • Other security related and administrative duties as required.
Employees of DPS are required to be able, and to be seen to be able, to provide professional advice and services to all Senators and Members without favour or prejudice.

Salary
Currently, the salary range for this position is $74,730 - $81,202 per annum.
Conditions of Employment
Employment opportunities at Department of Parliamentary Services are subject to a range of conditions prescribed in the Parliamentary Service Act 1999 which include:
  • Australian citizenship - to be eligible for employment with DPS, applicants must be an Australian Citizen.
  • Security clearance and character clearance - the preferred applicant will be required to obtain and maintain a security clearance at the level specified, as well as complete and be deemed suitable through a Nationally Coordinated Criminal History Check.
  • Health assessment - a pre-employment health assessment will be required where there are physical or medical requirements for the role.
