Anglo American Steelmaking Coal
Steelmaking coal is an essential ingredient in blast-furnace steel manufacture, producing steel used for critical building and infrastructure around the world.   In Australia, we operate two open cut and three underground steelmaking coal mines in Queensland’s Bowen Basin, every year producing millions of tonnes of the highest quality hard coking coal for this purpose.

Job Description

We are currently seeking a highly motivated Outbye Operational Coordinator to ensure compliance is maintained within our Moranbah North Mine to Outbye Standards regarding stone dusting, secondary support, roadway maintenance, water management and coal and fines management.

Reporting to the Outbye Superintendent and is primarily responsible for the coordination of all Outbye operational activities including but not limited to the following:

  • Maintaining a safe and productive mining environment through regular underground inspections
  • Assisting the operations team to deliver production targets safely, optimally, and in accordance with the annual mine plan.
  • Compliance with Coal Mining Safety & Health Act & Regulations
  • General Mine and Panel Services (i.e. – roadworks, pumping, water management, secondary support, stone dusting etc.)
  • Ensuring all assigned actions are completed within the appropriate timeframes, with any cause for delay raised with direct supervisor.
  • Development of shift work plans in collaboration with Outbye Mechanical and Electrical Coordinators and other support functions, within department budget ensuring all spares and consumables are readily available. 
  • Communicating shift and upcoming work plans and issues to relevant stakeholders in a timely manner (i.e. – through the use of Fewzion and daily, weekly and monthly planning meetings).
  • Contributing to and regularly reviewing Outbye operations plan(s) and subsequently implementing and auditing them ensuring that anything that has the potential to cause significant loss has an action plan in place to reduce exposure.
  • Identifying and reporting opportunities for improvement and assigning corrective actions/tasks to relevant site personnel, whilst encouraging workforce input into these activities.
  • Ensuring work orders are completed to the required standard and regularly reviewed for appropriateness to current mine conditions
  • Reviewing statutory shift reports and action any non-compliance.
  • Uniformly applying AAMC standards and procedures
  • Ensuring that all record keeping, and reporting is done to an appropriate and acceptable standard
  • Consistently delivering performance targets, analysing and seeking continuous improvement for Safety, Costs & Resource Recovery.
  • Ensuring clear and concise communication processes are maintained within each shift, between shifts & with weekend crews, including communicating the plan and required deadlines and any critical production issues.
Qualifications
  • Previous experience in a similar position within an underground mining operation
  • Demonstrated commitment to safety with previous experience in identifying risks and implementing safe working practices
  • Demonstrated experience leading a team to safely deliver targets line with business plans
  • Proven ability to effectively communicate at all levels
  • Experience in driving best practise through your department and into the business in line with business goals.
  • Ability to understand functionality of business systems and extract relevant data for business purposes
  • Track record in driving continuous improvement
