Ergon Energy Network & Energex are seeking expressions of interests for permanent trade & AQF6 qualified people to join our Operations Substations team across Queensland.

The workgroup
The Operations Substations group is accountable for substation maintenance and transmission level, construction, fault response and maintenance activities for primary and secondary systems.
The positions
Substations Operations Technician / Electrical Fitter Mechanic:
As a Substations Operations Technician / Electrical Fitter Mechanic you will install, operate, repair, commission and maintain various items of substations electrical equipment and plant up to transmission level voltages. You will be expected to work as part of an integrated team to ensure your and your teams safety and high levels of performance.
You will be required to:
Be trade qualified with a Queensland Electrical Fitter Mechanic licence.
Have previous experience up to transmission level high voltage testing, construction or maintenance is highly advantageous.
Have previous experience working within substations with exposure to transmission level high voltage switchgear and operating equipment up to transmission voltage will be well regarded.
Protection Technician (Test Paraprofessional):
As a Protection Technician (Test Paraprofessional) you are responsible for performing technical work under limited supervision utilising technical principles, practices, techniques, human relation skills and includes fault diagnosis and co-ordination of activities in the secondary systems work area primarily high voltage and transmission assets. You will be expected to work as part of an integrated team to ensure your and your teams safety and high levels of performance.
Responsibilities include:
Carry out high and low voltage testing, commissioning, corrective and preventative maintenance on protection, control, communications and metering equipment associated high voltage and transmission related assets.
Undertake installation, testing, repair and commissioning tasks limited to complex electrical system components in a high voltage environment.
You will be required to:
Possess an Electrical trade qualification with completion of relevant training and recognised high voltage related experience.
Possess relevant AQF6 qualification (Associate Degree / Advanced Diploma) or equivalent qualification or meet all pre-requisites to obtain tertiary qualifications through extensive knowledge and demonstrated understanding and practical application of all technical requirements of high voltage electricity networks and their design.
Demonstrate vast knowledge and proven experience in high voltage related secondary systems area, coupled with the ability to provide leadership and technical support to individuals and teams.
Telecommunications Technician:
As a Telecommunications Technician you are responsible for undertaking installation, testing, repair and commissioning tasks limited to complex electrical/electronic and communications system components in a high voltage related environment. As well as developing and implementing plant and equipment modifications to overcome identified problems. You will be required to perform asset inspection and audit maintenance.
You will be required to:
Have a relevant communications trade certificate.
Be in the process or willing to obtain an AQF6 qualification (Associate Degree / Advanced Diploma) or equivalent in relevant Communications or Engineering field.
Demonstrate knowledge of the operation, maintenance and safety requirements of secondary systems and communications equipment in a high voltage substation environment.
Have previous experience with telecommunications, radio, SCADA, optical fibre, multiplexing, and IP switching as well as demonstrated knowledge of operating principles, practical applications of substation control and communications systems in a high voltage substation environment.
The candidate
Also critical to your success is your:
Current ‘C’ class open Drivers Licence is essential.
Prepared to travel to undertake work.
Well-developed interpersonal communication skills to develop good working relationships with team members and external customers.
Availability for call out and emergency work.
Applicants are required to complete a pre-employment medical prior to starting with Energy Queensland.
