Orchard Overseer (Macadamia)

We are currently seeking an enthusiastic, committed, hardworking team member to join us as our Orchard Overseer (Macadamia) at our MH Premium Farms properties “Haughton” and “Barratta" in the Burdekin region, Queensland. We are have a recently established Macadamia Orchard operation and another development project to manage, we also have sugarcane production in rotation with summer legumes on these properties.

As the Orchard Overseer (Macadamia), you will need to have a proven skill set in the husbandry of macadamias to allow onsite, real time decisions to be made. In addition you will be responsible for supporting the daily harvest activities and staff throughout the season; including machinery maintenance, pruning, fertilising, spraying, and assisting on the sugarcane farm as required.

As an integral member of the MHPF team, you will seek to build team morale through positive team interactions and assist to identify and resolve operational challenges as they arise, with support from the Area Manager.You will be offered a salary range between $70,000 to $75,000 (excluding superannuation) with a modern work ute provided. Accommodation and phone allowance an options for the right applicant.Most importantly we are seeking someone with a positive attitude, good work ethic, strong communication, enjoys motivating and leading a team to achieve results.Key responsibilities:

• Orchard Operations – ground prep and planning, planting, tree pruning, orchard maintenance, preparation for harvest and undertaking harvest operations
• Responsible for fertiliser and chemical applications to ensure a healthy plant free from pests and disease
• Responsible for the training and supervision of all Orchard Staff – ensuring key policies and WHS procedures are adhered to
• Orchard irrigation setup, maintenance, and operation
• Responsible for the maintenance, servicing and safe operations of all associated plant and machinery required for the orchard and processing facilities
• Additional skills such as welding and vehicle maintenance
• Ensure timely and accurate record keeping

Applicant Requirements:

• Current and valid driver’s license.
• Demonstrated experience of role requirements.
• At least 2 years of relevant work experience.
• Machinery operation and maintenance skills
• Welding, fabrication and paint application experience
• Chem Cert qualifications
• Experience managing and training individuals working in a high risk environment
• Strong communication skills (both written and verbal).
• Flexible, reliable, and adaptable.
• Physically fit.
• Basic computer skills to facilitate record keeping, procurement and organisation.
