The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District is looking for 2 x Staff Specialists to join the Paediatrics team at the Wollongong Hospital on a temporary basis.

This role will see the Paediatrician proactively:
Provide expert medical assessment and management of patients within the Paediatric Service.
Be responsible for the provision of specialist paediatric services to emergency patients, inpatients and outpatients at the relevant Hospital.
Will ensure provision of high quality paediatric services to all patients within the Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District.
The Paediatrician will also:

  • Support the development of paediatric services
  • Support and facilitate a culture of learning and best practice
  • Support and develop paediatric research within the department

Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals, treating more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital servicing a population of more than 400,000 people. The Wollongong Hospital is a 500+ bed centre which provides both general and specialty medical and surgical services including adult intensive care and coronary care units. The hospital has a 24 bed children’s ward and 12 bed Level 4 Special Care Nursery caring for infants from 32 weeks gestation.
ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 across eight hospital sites and community health services.

Successful applicants to the role must provide certified documentation of vaccination history and pathology as part of their recruitment documentation. The applicant must be certified as compliant with before employment can commence.

Selection Criteria: * Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians – Paediatric and Child Health Division and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
  • Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  • Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and post graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated experience in and commitment to research relevant to the role and needs of the Department.
