About the Business
The Attorney-General's Department supports the State Redress Response Unit (SRRU), which coordinates the participation of the South Australian Government in the National Redress Scheme for Institutional Child Sexual Abuse (the National Redress Scheme).
The establishment of the National Redress Scheme was a key recommendation arising out of the Royal Commission into Institutional Responses to Child Sexual Abuse. The National Redress Scheme is operated by the Commonwealth Government and provides applicants who have experienced child sexual abuse within an institutional setting the opportunity to apply for a monetary payment, counselling, and a direct personal response, where the relevant institution has chosen to participate in the Scheme. The South Australian government, and all South Australian government run institutions, commenced participation in the National Redress Scheme in February 2019.
