Do YOU have a flair for Aged Care and Spiritual Care? If so, join our team as a passionate and dedicated Pastoral Care Practitioner, supporting our sites in Altona Meadows and Brunswick. The Benetas Pastoral Care service is a significant part of our organisations social dividend. Pastoral Care plays an important role for residents and demonstrates our commitment to value the whole person and all aspects of their life.
We are seeking an individual with a passion for person-centred care, who is comfortable with working in a non-denominational and multi-faith capacity. The successful candidate will have a background in Pastoral Care service delivery and a demonstrated empathy with the elderly. As a natural people person with a good ear, you will use your high level of emotional intelligence to support residents and their families with a range of issues, including spirituality and meaning, grief and loss, adjusting to change, palliative care and end stage of life.
A typical day will have you:
  • Represent Pastoral Care in a professional manner, living the Benetas values of respect, responsibility, spirit and community
  • Manage and respond to Allied Health referrals for Pastoral Care provision, assess and respond pastorally, document Pastoral Care effectively
  • Provide 1:1 and group based inclusive/ non-denominational / multi-faith respectful Pastoral Care including Memorial Services, spiritual reminiscence, spiritual and emotional support
  • Have an understanding and implement individualised, culturally sensitive care to all residents and clients
  • Support Benetas in the community including fostering Parish Partnerships
  • Communicate and promote the Pastoral Care Service within the community and within Benetas
  • Work collaboratively with all stakeholders including Community Engagement Coordinators (Lifestyle)
  • Facilitate effective working relationships and open communication with all key stakeholders
  • Respond to requests from residents, clients, their families and representatives, Benetas employees and volunteers for services, denominational visitors and local clergy providing chaplaincy, sacramental ministerial/church based services and rituals
  • Maintain a current caseload of referrals - minimum 20% of allocated resident cohort
We’re looking for someone with:
  • CPE (Clinical Pastoral Education) - minimum 1 unit and experience in professional Pastoral Care
  • Eligible for membership of Spiritual Care Australia
  • Prior experience as a professional Pastoral Care Practitioner in an Allied Health role or equivalent
  • Experience in effective documentation management, including spiritual assessments and progress notes
  • Exemplary organisational skills, attention to detail and the ability to manage competing tasks
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Highly developed IT skills
  • Demonstrated resilience and compassion when dealing with complex spiritual care needs, such as grief and loss
