About the role
We are seeking an individual who is highly motivated to become part of a passionate and engaged team. Your key responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following:
- Collect samples (blood and non-blood) with care and attention
- Keep meticulous records for every patient and sample
- Prepare and package specimens for transport and testing
About you
To be considered for this position, you will need to have a great blend of skills, including:
- Show a high level of empathy, communication, and customer service
- Strong time management, interpersonal and organisational skills
- A willingness and confidence to work independently in a solo clinic
- Vaccine preventable disease evidence such as Hepatitis B and COVID-19 are a requirement of this role
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge in Phlebotomy or a Certificate III in Pathology Collection would be advantageous
Training
All of our new Pathology Collector positions will receive full training upon commencement.

Laverty Pathology is part of Healius, we're committed to supporting practitioners by delivering timely, accurate, and high-quality diagnostic results. We have a team of more than 2,000 people who work year-round to deliver results. While our core laboratory is in North Ryde, we have around 20 laboratories across NSW and the ACT - many based in hospitals - to ensure we can get results back to doctors as soon as possible. We also have more than 600 collection centres for patients to visit at their convenience. In addition to this, we provide several Workplace Health & Safety testings for commercial clients.
We are currently seeking Part time Pathology Collectors to join our team at Metro North/Northern Beaches, NSW, current suburbs are Balgowlah, Brookvale, Chatswood, Cremorne, Dee Why, East Killara, Gordon, Lane Cove, Linfield, Neutral Bay, Newport, North Sydney and St Leonards. This role is responsible for performing Venepunctures, ECG and Holter Monitor tests and other specimen collections as requested by referring practitioners.
A typical day may include the following:
- Collection of blood and routine non-blood specimens from adult and paediatric patients.
- Collection of samples according to AS/NZS 4308:2008 for Drugs of Abuse testing.
- Performing ECG (Electrocardiography) and Holter Monitoring
- Performing other diagnostic procedures, such as, Spirometry and Blood Pressure Monitoring
- Attending to the empathetic care of patients, before, during and after sample collection
- Delivering an excellent level of customer service and meaningful communication with patients/clients.
- Attending to the care, storage, and processing of pathology specimens
- Attending to paperwork and associated clerical duties to ensure all details are correct in a timely manner
- Accurately recording information relating to patients and specimens
- Communicating effectively with Laverty couriers for any urgent and critical specimens.
- Compliance and adherence with Laverty Pathology policies and procedures, and Workplace Health and Safety procedures.
- Ensuring housekeeping and stock supplies at Collection centres are maintained to Laverty procedural standards
- Working alone (when appropriate), participating in weekend and rotating roster as well as out of hours roster in any of our collection centres with a designated area.
To be successful in this role, you will require:
Essential
- Full vaccination against COVID-19
- Immunity for Hepatitis B
- Basic computer skills
- The ability to:
- communicate effectively with Collections teams, referring Doctors, Patients, and other Stakeholders
- demonstrate an understanding and dedication to patient care and customer service delivery standards
- demonstrate sound organisational skills and problem-solving skills
- prioritise and work under pressure
- understand and ensure compliance with WH&S policies and guidelines, to maintain a safe and healthy workplace
- Share the company's vision, culture, and values through respect for all
Preferred
- Your own car and valid Driver's Licence
- A certificate III in Pathology Collection
- Competence in collection of samples according to AS/NZS 4308:2008 for Drugs of Abuse testing
- Previous pathology collection experience of at least 6 months
