The Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria and the School of BioSciences, The University of Melbourne have an established, successful collaboration, reputations for excellence in Plant Systematics Research, and modern infrastructure. Through RBGV Foundation and The Botany Foundation (The University of Melbourne) an established endowment fund supports salary for a joint research position: the "Pauline Ladiges Plant Systematics Research Fellowship".

What You'll Do

The Fellow will conduct research in the field Plant Systematics with a focus on the terrestrial flora of Australasia, design and implement research projects that deploy modern methods, including molecular techniques, and contribute to the joint research priorities of both institutions. The position requires the fellow to work at and collaborate with researchers at both the Gardens and the University.

The role will be responsible for representing the RBGV and UM in professional forums, in addition to supervising Honours/Masters/PhD students, teaching undergraduates, and providing coaching or mentorship to junior colleagues and students. The successful candidate will assist with budget planning, financial monitoring, and grant application co-ordination for relevant research projects.

What You'll Bring

The successful candidate will hold a PhD in Plant Systematics/evolutionary biology, with preferably 1-2 year's post-doctoral experience. You will have sound knowledge of the Australian flora, and a background in conducting in-depth research independently in Plant Systematics. Using your critical thinking skills, you can identify knowledge gaps, and apply up to date research and current methodologies to resolve complex problems. You have demonstrated experience of scientific publications in refereed journals and proven skills in molecular and quantitative research methods. Your excellent interpersonal skills enable you to influence and encourage others to achieve specific requirements, in addition to facilitating positive working relationships. You work well autonomously and in a team environment and can effectively manage conflicting priorities.
