About this opportunity
This role is unique as it requires someone with lived experience of mental illness to draw from their personal experiences of their recovery to engage and empower individuals in their recovery journey.
Participation of people with lived experience of mental illness is an important element of the way in which Wellways provides services.
Utilising the Wellways Lived Experience Workforce Framework, as a Peer Community Outreach Worker you will provide rehabilitation support and will act as a positive role model for program participants and their families in order to overcome stigma and encourage personal development. You will also assist participants, their families, clinicians and the community to better understand the participant's perspective and to improve outcomes for participants.
The service targets people over 16 years of age who experience mental health issues and operates 52 weeks per year with service delivery hours matched to the needs of the target group. The programs aim to improve mental health outcomes for the target group as well as provide opportunities to increase knowledge, skills and confidence to manage future crisis.
To be successful in this role, you will need the following;
- Prior experience working within the Mental Health industry or a community based organisation is highly desirable
- Tertiary qualification in social science or a related discipline
- Lived Experience
- Satisfactory Police Check (no older than 12 months)
- Working with Vulnerable People Check and NDIS Worker Screening Check
- Evidence of working rights within Australia
- NDIS Orientation Module
