ABOUT THE ROLEAn exciting opportunity exists at Austin Health for an enthusiastic person with lived experience of spinal cord injury (SCI) to assist individuals who have recently acquired an SCI to improve their rehabilitation outcomes and resume a fulfilling life in the community.The role is open for immediate start.The
Peer Support Worker will be based at Royal Talbot Rehabilitation Centre within the Spinal Community Integration Service (SCIS).In the role you will support people affected by spinal cord injury to live engaged and full lives in their community with maximum independence by offering information, shared experience and hope.You will achieved this by:
- Providing opportunities for individual or group Peer Support
- Guiding a team of volunteers with lived experience of SCI to provide Peer Support
- Working with other healthcare staff to support individuals' rehabilitation and life in the community
ABOUT THE PEER SUPPORT SERVICEThe
Peer Support service works in collaboration with not for profit agency AQA Victoria to provide
Peer Support services for people who have a spinal cord injury and their family members, partners and significant others. It is an integral part of the Spinal Community Integration Service (SCIS) based at Austin Health – Royal Talbot and works with?spinal cord injured clients from both Austin and Alfred Health who come from across Victoria. As the
Peer Support (Locum) you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.TO BE SUCCESSFUL IN THIS ROLE YOU MUST:
- Have lived experience of spinal cord injury
- Live as independently as possible in the community – with or without carers
- Have proven communication and interpersonal skills?
