Performance Dietician – BMS National Rugby Training Centre

Rugby Australia (Rugby AU), the governing body of Rugby Union in Australia, and the Queensland Reds are looking for an experienced Performance Nutritionist

There are three (2) pillars to the purpose of this role.

  1. This position will develop and lead a world-class high-performance nutrition program for Queensland Rugby Union (QRU) programs including Queensland Reds Super Rugby, Super W and Pathway players, and
  2. Provide an integral support role to the National Head of Performance Nutrition, working on identified projects across the national nutrition system and servicing support for the National Men’s program when required.

Key accountabilities:

Queensland Reds

  • Provide a full range of appropriate and integrated performance nutrition services and programs for Queensland Reds, and Queensland Reds Elite Pathway players (Junior and Senior)
  • Provide individual nutrition servicing and group education
  • Educate and support coaches and players on athlete nutrition
  • Provide anthropometric testing, monitoring and reporting
  • Oversee athlete use of supplements in accordance with implementation of the Rugby Australia Supplement Policy
  • Undertake a collaborative, player-centred case management approach to ensure players are maximizing their ability to train and compete, working closely with other high performance team staff
  • Monitor research trends and developments in rugby nutrition and performance health to provide advocacy and leadership across the Australian Rugby system on nutrition for rugby union athletes
  • On tour nutrition support across Queensland Reds program, when required
  • Develop and reinforce strong working relationships with key commercial stakeholders in the nutrition space to provide access to quality nutrition product as well as support commercial opportunities for the benefit of the game
  • Engage with relevant Queensland Reds corporate partners to ensure symbiotic relationship between performance nutrition program and sponsor.

Rugby Australia

  • Support the implementation and ongoing monitoring of national performance nutrition projects and research as guided by the National Head of Performance Nutrition (Rugby Australia).

To be successful, you will need to have:

Essential

  • Bachelor’s degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from Dietitians Australia (DA) accredited course, or bachelor’s degree in science or an allied field, followed by a postgraduate degree in Nutrition and Dietetics from a DA accredited course, or DSR Dietetics examination for overseas trained Dieticians, administered by DA plus
  • ISAK accredited
  • Membership of DA as an Accredited Practicing Dietician
  • Accredited Sports Dietitian (SDA)
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in providing nutrition services in a high-performance environment at national and international level
  • Proven ability to work in an integrated team with high performance coaches and athletes/ players
  • Experience in high-performance sport across different sports and levels of high-performance pathways
  • Commitment to ongoing professional education and personal development
  • Ability to develop a positive performance culture
  • Ability and willingness to travel in line with contract agreement
  • Acceptance of unusual work hours
  • Knowledge and understanding of the Australian high performance sport system or equivalent international system knowledge
  • Extensive grasp of contemporary issues and evidence-based performance nutrition management of high-performance athletes
  • Skilled in the diagnosis and management of clinical nutritional issues, and individual nutrition counselling
  • Ability to identify barriers to optimal nutrition practices and develop and implement creative solutions
  • Understanding of player/athlete availability, injury, and illness prevention and load monitoring principles
  • Highly developed communication skills
  • Proven ability to build and maintain effective relationships both internally and externally with a diverse range of stakeholders, particularly Sports Science and Sports Medicine practitioners
  • Demonstrated ability to drive programs
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate with a wide range of professionals
  • Reliable
  • Good ability to build relationships
  • Ability to travel (domestic and international).

Desirable

  • IOC Diploma Sports Nutrition preferable
  • Advanced Accredited Sports Dietician (SDA) status preferable (or equivalent international status)
  • Sports Integrity Australia (SIA) Anti-Doping Fundamentals and Annual Update
  • PhD
  • ANZAED Eating Disorder Credential
  • Experience at a national level managing a performance-focused nutrition program for a national sporting organisation
  • Passion for Rugby.
