The Personal Care Assistant for Special Needs provides person-centre quality support services for students with identified diverse physical/learning needs including disability. To provide compassionate and professional care to individuals with special needs and assist with daily activities to ensure well being and promote independence.
Key Responsibilities include:
- Assist with toileting and Personal Care needs of students at all ages and dependency levels, including toileting, bathing, showering, grooming, dressing and changing
- Provide companionship and emotional support
- Maintain a safe and clean environment
- Assist students with food preparation, eating and drinking
- Provide first aid related to this role, health care support, administer medications and document any intervention provided to students in the appropriate register maintained at the school, if required
- Assist with swimming needs as required
- Document care provided, report any changes in the student’s condition to the supervising health care professional and/or parent/carer
- Assisting with Health Centre administrative requirements as directed by the Senior Nurse
- Attend school camp when required (administration of medications may be required whilst on camp)
- Hours Monday – Wednesday 8am to 3pm
Experience/Qualifications:
- Enrolled nurse or Assistant in Nursing (or similar)
- A current Working with Children Check or the willingness to obtain one
- First Aid Certificate - Mandatory first Aid training, administration of medications and health care procedures training
- Awareness of the needs of students with emotional, physical or intellectual disabilities
- Experience implementing daily care routines
- Ability to handle physically demanding tasks
- Willingness to learn how to use required equipment (desirable)
