About the Role
A Personal Care Assistant (PCA) provides support and assistance to individuals with daily living activities, such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation, enabling them to live independently and maintain their quality of life.
Responsibilities:
- Helping clients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, toileting, and mobility.
- Assisting with meal planning, preparation, and feeding as needed.
- Providing companionship and emotional support to clients.
- Maintaining accurate records of care provided and any observations or concerns.
- Observing and reporting any changes in the client's health or behavior to appropriate medical personnel or family members.
- Performing light housekeeping tasks such as tidying up, laundry, and cleaning.
- PCAs must adhere to legal and ethical standards in healthcare and maintain client confidentiality.
- Good communication skills are important for effectively interacting with clients, families, and healthcare professionals.
- Minimum Certificate III in Individual Support or equivalent.
- Prior experience in healthcare or caregiving is often preferred but not always required.
- A caring and compassionate attitude is essential for providing quality care to clients.
- PCAs must be able to lift, bend, and stand for long periods, as the role may involve assisting clients with mobility and other physical tasks.
