About the role

Mater is currently looking for an Plaster Technician to join the team on a permanent part time role working 3 days per week, based at South Brisbane. The Plaster Technician will work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team inclusive of the Director of Ambulatory and Outpatients, Nurse Unit Manager Ambulatory and Outpatients, Director of Orthopaedics Allied Health, Nursing, Medical and Admin teams and Senior Orthopaedic Technician to deliver an effective Orthopaedic Outpatient casting service within Mater Private and potentially in future state Mater Springfield.

Salary range: $32.23 - $33.66 (Operational Officer Level 3) per hour plus plus Superannuation and access to not-for-profit salary packaging up to $15,900

What you’ll be doing

Your responsibilities will include (but are not limited to): 

• Provide clinical assessment and demonstrate initiative and appropriate decision making in the management of orthopaedic patients including application, removal and review of casts, splints, plaster slabs, synthetic slabs and orthopaedic appliances under the direction of the treating medical team.
• An understanding of or ability to acquire knowledge of relevant anatomy, plaster types and orthopaedic appliances.
• Using a quality improvement framework, initiates and participates in activities that enhance service delivery and ensure patient satisfaction and safety.
• Collaborates with other health professionals and community services in the delivery of health care.
• Reports to the Nursing Unit Manager Ambulatory and Outpatients
• Works closely with Orthopaedic Medical Team, Service Manager Orthopaedics
• Other key external stakeholders and bodies as appropriate

About you

• Minimum of 1 year experience in hospital environment.
• High-level interpersonal, written and verbal communications skills with the ability to engage with internal stakeholders at various levels to achieve.
• A strong understanding of hospital policies and procedures relating to infection control, cleaning and plaster room operations.
• An understanding of or ability to acquire knowledge of relevant anatomy, plaster types and orthopaedic appliances.
• Highly developed interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work with minimal supervision and as part of a multidisciplinary team in a busy environment.
• Computer system knowledge including Verdi, iPM, Microsoft apps including excel/teams

To be considered for the role you must have:

Essential:

• An understanding of or ability to acquire knowledge of relevant anatomy, plaster types and orthopaedic appliances. Current Blue card required.

Desirable

• Previous Plaster technician experience
