Our client is a public sector department which aims to maximise the economic potential of Queensland's primary industries on a sustainable basis. They are looking to engage a Scientist in their team to work within Plant biosecurity in order to achieve plant pest and disease surveillance outcomes.
Your new role
In your new role you will use your research and analytical skills to perform scientific and technical literature reviews. In order to do this, you will be collating information and writing concise scientific reports and recommendations for review. The role also entails collaborating with other scientists to actively resolve problems, address challenges and provide solutions to manage biosecurity risks. This could include the following:
Prioritising pests for further analysis
Assisting in pest risk and pathway analysis
Contributing to ongoing improvement, validation and currency of scientific practices within plant biosecurity surveillance
Developing, optimising and validating analytical methods to address emerging needs and/or
Providing initial review and oversight of work outputs
What you'll need to succeed
In order to succeed, you will ideally have the following:
Class C driver's licence (this role may require travel within Queensland or interstate for work purposes)
Tertiary Qualification or higher in Biological or agricultural sciences from a recognised tertiary institution
Experience working across plant biosecurity or plant disease projects
Ability to present research at state/national conferences with direct supervision

Our client is offering the opportunity to develop within a well-established team as well as the opportunity to present research at state level. The role is a contract opportunity initially until June 2025 with the potential to extend and the client is offering $61.49 per hour plus super.
