The Chamber of Minerals and Energy of WA (CME) currently has an exceptional opportunity for a dynamic and driven individual to join the team as a Policy Adviser – Health and Wellbeing

The Policy AdviserHealth and Wellbeing is responsible for supporting policy analysis and development of a range of important issues impacting the resource sector, including mental Health and Wellbeing, occupational Health and hygiene, COVID-19 management, workplace Health and safety, radiation and workplace exposure standards. This role is also responsible for stakeholder engagement, undertaking research and analysis of technical information and legislation and project management on a wide range of issues within CME’s Health and Wellbeing portfolio. 

This position will provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to work with some of the most experienced professionals in their field and can meaningfully shape the future of WA resource sector by working in close collaboration with resource sector companies, the government, and the community to generate mutual benefit.

Key duties will include:

  • Building and maintaining effective relationships with key stakeholders, including existing and potential members of CME, local, state and federal government representatives and community stakeholders;
  • Proactively engaging with our resources sector members and government stakeholders to identify emerging issues and priorities and, undertaking research and analysis in working towards practical solutions for the sector;
  • Collaborating with the broader CME team and our members to develop policy on issues impacting the resources sector, including mental Health and Wellbeing, occupational Health and hygiene, COVID-19 management, workplace Health and safety, radiation, and workplace exposure standards;
  • Coordinating and facilitating portfolio committees and specialist working group meetings ensuring effective engagement with our members and external stakeholders of developing issues; 
  • Preparing and drafting briefings, recommendations and submissions outlining industry positions on various issues; and
  • Undertaking research and analysis of developing issues affecting our member companies, including relevant government legislation development processes and government policy relating to the resources sector. 

What are we looking for in you?

  • Tertiary qualification and a minimum of 3 years' experience in a related role, including reporting, compliance, policy development and analysis.
  • Technical Workplace Health and Safety experience, and well-rounded experience in diversity and inclusion, workplace behaviours, psychosocial Health and Wellbeing, and workplace safety.
  • Demonstrated ability to interpret and communicate legislative and policy requirements.
  • An understanding of State and Federal government policy development and parliamentary processes and related legislation such as the Work Health and Safety Act 2020 is desirable. 
  • Valid WA drivers’ licence. 
  • Interest in contributing to the strong future of the resources sector. 
  • A flexible and collaborative approach, with a passion for results. 
  • Strong people, relationship management and networking skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple stakeholder needs.
  • Highly effective communication, advocacy, and negotiation skills.
