Job description

  • Reporting the Chief Executive Officer this person will work closely with the CEO to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive grant strategy to support NFVPLS to meet its strategic plan.
  • In addition this role will also have input into the development of Policy and advocacy strategies to raise awareness about and improve outcomes for First Nations people in Australia affected by family violence

This new role is with a national peak body for community-controlled Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander organisations around Australia that provide legal and other holistic and culturally safe services to First Nations people affected by family violence - predominantly First Nations women and their children.

  • Reporting the Chief Executive Officer this person will work closely with the CEO to develop, implement, and evaluate a comprehensive grant strategy to support NFVPLS to meet its strategic plan.
  • In addition this role will also have input into the development of Policy and advocacy strategies to raise awareness about and improve outcomes for First Nations people in Australia affected by family violence

The Senior Policy Advisor will also be required to:

  • Build and maintain relationships with relevant stakeholders, government and working groups to contribute to, inform and influence policy development and research.
  • Support engagement with Ministers and Members of Parliament with briefing and meeting notes, communications strategies, and advice.
  • Drafting submissions and supporting briefs for Local, State and National and International inquiries and reviews. This includes submissions for additional funding.

We are looking for candidates who have:

  • Demonstrated experience in the delivery of high-quality policy outputs and complex research, analysis and drafting in relation to strategic policy development and evaluation.
  • Demonstrated experience in grant writing for National and State funding that is connect to current policy developments.
  • Demonstrated ability to use different communication styles across multiple formats, including formal submissions, project documentation, briefings, presentations, media content, etc.
  • Experience in leading and participating in multi-disciplinary policy groups and engaging diverse stakeholders in research and policy work.
  • Demonstrated experience in the collection and analysis of primary and secondary data.
  • Understanding of the Legal, and or Domestic and Family violence sector
  • Experience with MS Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Culturally sensitive with the ability to understand the issues faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

This role can be done remotely from anywhere in Australia and depending on location of the incumbent there may be a need to travel 2 to 3 times a year. This is for an initial 18-month contract with the strong possibility of a permanent appointment.

This role offers a competitive remuneration that includes a base salary and superannuation together with NFP salary packaging that applies for tax free income as well as 5 weeks leave and additional superannuation.
