Policy Manager Disaster Preparation and Recovery
Ongoing
Full-time 35 hours per week
Location - Various (regional applicants encouraged)
SNSW Grade 11/12

Service NSW partners with over 50 government and non-government agencies to offer over 1,200 NSW Government services such as the Cost-of-Living program, Active and Creative Kids, drivers' licences, applications for birth certificates, Housing NSW payments and more.

Disaster Preparation and Recovery is a new division established by Service NSW to provide a one stop shop for citizens of NSW who are affected by disasters including floods and bushfires. Our role is to make sure Service NSW is well prepared and responds to natural disasters and other crisis events with effective services that meet the needs of people in some of their most difficult times. In disasters, Service NSW helps customers understand the support options available through their recovery journey, provides financial supports and stimulus for impacted individuals and businesses, and helps to deliver cohesive services in partnership with other agencies. Some of our assistance includes helping individuals and businesses access financial assistance they may be entitled to and connecting impacted customers with short and long term housing and other vital services.
The Service NSW team is the human face of NSW government recovery support, and is able to act as the voice of the customer to inform what supports impacted communities might need. We are already working on simplifying some of the processes people encounter to make it easier for them to get back in their feet.

About you:

Are you experienced in providing policy advice in a dynamic environment and influencing Government policy in response to state wide disaster recovery?

About the role:

You will lead and manage the development, delivery and implementation of a portfolio of policy initiatives, projects and/or reforms that support organisational objectives and Government commitments.

In the event of a disaster working out of core hours on a rostered basis.

Travel within the state, including overnight travel will be required.

Your remuneration

SNSW Grade 11/12: The package includes the base salary range of ($145,682 to $175,260) plus employer's contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead and undertake research, analysis and review of complex policy and/or legislative reform issues, identifying emerging issues, and developing evidence-based options and strategies, to ensure problems are resolved and risks are mitigated
  • Provide expert and timely advice and information to inform relevant stakeholders including Ministers and/or senior leaders and support policy directions and/or legislative reforms to meet organisational, government and/or industry priorities
  • Lead and manage team/s and/or project teams to support the Agency in meeting policy and/or legislative reform commitments and/or roll-out of significant policy initiatives applying best practice methodologies and industry recognised practices to ensure on-time delivery to expected standards
  • Develop and implement strategies for the monitoring and evaluation of all policy initiatives to identify risks and issues and ensure the achievement of desired outcomes
  • Lead and facilitate stakeholder engagement, consultation and negotiation on policy and/or legislative reform issues applying best practice methodologies to identify and develop solutions and make recommendations that account for relevant factors and support sound policy decisions and approaches
  • Oversee the preparation of reports, briefs and correspondence to inform or respond to Agency and/or Government requests
  • Lead and drive activities to align resources to deliver priorities and a positive customer experience • Maintain awareness of relevant issues, policy obligations, insights, challenges, industry trends and practices and opportunities to in order to identify, pursue, evaluate, recommend and deliver innovative
