Purpose of the role: This role will be accountable for leading the day-to-day performance of the Infrastructure Portfolio – Investment Management Office (IP-IMO) Cost Team reporting to the Portfolio Cost Manager and supporting the c.$1.6bn2.5b p.a Infrastructure Portfolio.
This role is a critical to the success of the portfolio and requires managing a heavy workload with tight deadlines and competing commitments and priorities which require negotiating and continual re-prioritising of own work.
What will you be doing?
Your role would be to engage with the wider Sydney Water business to provide guidance on Sydney Water guidelines, processes and procedures. Support the Portfolio and key stakeholders with continuous improvements to control costs and maintain performance and confidence across Sydney Water’s portfolio.
You will:
- Be responsible for the day-to-day Portfolio Cost control process, supporting the cost estimating, budgeting and interface controls processes and supporting the performance of the IPMO Portfolio Controls Team
- Develop and maintain the IPMO change management process and support the cost estimating and cost management process. Define the portfolio, program, and control requirements and establish suitable controls procedures, manual and processes to deliver Sydney Water enterprise outcomes and benefits.
- Plan, monitor and control monthly Portfolio Cost performance monitoring and reporting, including variance analysis, advising Portfolio/Program Managers of financial risks and resolutions. Inform the IP-IMO Management Team aware of any issues that could potentially impact cost projections and overall portfolio performance.
- Lead the process in cost management and support continuous improvement and assist with change management as required.
- Support the estimating and budgeting and support the development of the annual and future Capital Investment Plan. Support input into Portfolio & Program regulatory submissions and annual Capital Investment Plan.

Who are we looking for?
You will have:
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, construction, project management or in a similar discipline and/or experience deemed equivalent.
- Circa 5-10+ years’ experience in project estimating, cost control and analysis.
- Demonstrated project cost control experience, including project costing, budgeting, forecasting, reporting and analysis in a complex project environment.
- Experience developing briefing papers and information packs related to project costs.
- Sound technical skills in project cost planning, scheduling, cost control and reporting.
- Skilled in oral and written communication, with demonstrated skill in presenting cost engineering information to management/clients.
- Demonstrated skill in identifying, analysing, and solving problems.
- High attention to detail and strong focus on accuracy.
