Requisition ID: REQ486261Applications Close: 26 June 2024This role is to provide expert medical assessment and management of Otolaryngology (ENT) patients.Provide comprehensive care, management and co-ordination of patients in the care of the Surgical Department – Otolaryngology (ENT) under the supervision and guidance of the Consultant ensuring optimal patient outcomes.Collaborate together with General Practitioners and other external stakeholders to ensure the continuity of patient care in both the primary and acute care settings through excellent communications.This is a 12-month temporary role commencing February 2025The Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District (ISLHD) has responsibility for health services in the Illawarra Shoalhaven region – a catchment area extending along the coastline from Helensburgh in the north to North Durras in the south with over 400,000 residents. This catchment covers four Local Government Areas (LGAs): Wollongong, Kiama, Shellharbour and Shoalhaven. ISLHD operates eight hospital sites in Coledale, Bulli, Wollongong, Port Kembla, Shellharbour, Berry, Shoalhaven and Milton Ulladulla, and community health services operating from approximately 58 locations across the region. ISLHD is one of the region’s largest employers with a workforce of more than 8,500 staff.Wollongong Hospital is the largest of Illawarra Shoalhaven Local Health District’s eight hospitals, treating more than 48,000 patients annually. It is the region’s tertiary referral hospital servicing a population of more than 400,000 people. The Wollongong Hospital is a 500+ bed centre which provides both general and specialty medical and surgical services including adult intensive care and coronary care units.An academic suite at Wollongong Hospital supports both the Graduate School of Medicine and School of Nursing and Midwifery at the University of Wollongong. The applicant must be certified as compliant with before employment can commence.Selection Criteria: * Specialist registration or eligible for specialist registration as a Medical Practitioner with the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).

  • Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) and/or equivalent specialist recognition.
  • Evidence of continuing medical education and self-monitoring/audit practices consistent with the scope of practice requirements of the position.
  • Proven capacity and/or experience in the provision of effective high quality services, demonstrated through successful clinical practice in an environment appropriate to the requirements of the position including evidence of participation in quality improvement activities relevant to the specialty.
  • Demonstrated commitment to teaching with experience in teaching both undergraduate and Post Graduate students and other staff of the hospital.
  • Demonstrate the skills and attitudes appropriate as a Senior Medical Practitioner including modelling a high standard of professional behaviour to junior medical staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and harmoniously with medical and other health services colleagues as part of a multi-disciplinary health care team and demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patients, colleagues, and staff and to work as an effective member of the clinical team across multiple sites.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and / or interest in research in the field of otolaryngology and / or sleep disorders.
