About This Opportunity

A unique and exciting opportunity for a Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow to join our dedicated team of researchers at RECOVER Injury Research Centre. RECOVER is a leading Australian Research Centre and is a joint initiative of The University of Queensland and the Queensland Motor Accident Insurance Commission. RECOVER informs policy and clinical practice to improve the health, psychological, social, vocational, and economic outcomes of people with injuries and disabilities, especially when caused by road traffic crashes.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow or Research Fellow, you will lead and undertake translational research to improve the treatment, rehabilitation, and health outcomes for people suffering injury from motor vehicle crashes. You will conduct research in the technology-enabled rehabilitation research stream led by Professor Trevor Russell.

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at Level A, you will have the opportunity to develop your expertise and emerging research profile in your discipline and contribute to service and engagement roles and activities.

As a Research Fellow at Level B, you will be able to engage in research to further your expertise and growing research profile to achieve national recognition in your discipline, and at this level, you will also efficiently manage service and engagement roles and activities.

This is a full-time (100%) fixed-term position through to 31 December 2024 at either Academic Level A or Academic Level B, commensurate with the preferred candidates experience.

At Academic level A, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $77,324 - $102,945, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $90,470 - $120,445 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases - at least once a year.

At Academic level B, the full-time equivalent base salary will be in the range $108,201 - $128,201, plus a generous super allowance of up to 17%. The total FTE package will be up to $126,595 - $149,996 annually. As this role is covered by an Enterprise Agreement, you will also receive regular remuneration increases - at least once a year.

About You

Level A

  • Completion or near completion of a PhD in a relevant area, e.g., allied health, health services research, health technology research.
  • An emerging profile in research related to the use of technology for health service delivery and health outcomes.
  • An understanding of how technology can be used in rehabilitation and experience in the development and using technology for health service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply skills and knowledge to develop a research project, achieve a timely completion, and produce research outcomes.
  • Ability to provide leadership in research, including research training and supervision.
  • Evidence of research publications in national and international journals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within and external to the Centre.
  • Ability to operate independently within a framework and guidelines established within the Centre, exercising initiative and judgement as appropriate.
  • High level interpersonal skills.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills with attention paid to accuracy and detail.
  • Knowledge and skill in statistical analysis using statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, or STATA) and/or qualitative research methods.
  • Experience in the use of computer packages for word processing, data storage and retrieval, spreadsheets, and other administrative activities.


Level B

  • Completion of a PhD in a relevant area, e.g., allied health, health services research, health technology research.
  • A growing profile in research related to the use of technology for health service delivery and health outcomes.
  • Demonstrated understanding of how technology can be used in rehabilitation and experience in the development and using technology for health service delivery.
  • Demonstrated ability to apply skills and knowledge to develop a research project, achieve a timely completion, and produce research outcomes.
  • Ability to provide leadership in research, including research training and supervision.
  • A developing reputation and track record in research publications in national and international journals.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues within and external to the Centre.
  • Ability to operate independently within a framework and guidelines established within the Centre, exercising initiative and judgement as appropriate.
  • High level interpersonal skills.
  • High level of oral and written communication skills with attention paid to accuracy and detail.
  • Knowledge and skill in statistical analysis using statistical packages (e.g., SPSS, R, SAS, or STATA) and/or qualitative research methods.
  • Experience in the use of computer packages for word processing, data storage and retrieval, spreadsheets, and other administrative activities.


In addition, the following mandatory requirements apply:

  • Work Rights: You must have unrestricted work rights in Australia for the duration of this appointment to apply. Visa sponsorship is not available for this appointment.
