Energy Australia's Tallawarra power station is located on the shores of Lake Illawarra in New South Wales. The power station is a modern, clean, and efficient Combined-Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plant capable of producing 435 MW; enough to power 200,000 homes.
We are constructing a 320 MW Open-Cycle Gas Turbine (OCGT) generation unit on the same site, securing Tallawarra’s ability to generate electricity both flexibly and fast. The construction of this additional unit also provides assurance to our team of staff that Tallawarra will operate well into the future.
The Role
You will report into the Operations Leader on-site and work alongside a close-knit team of Operations and Maintenance Technicians. You will consistently maintain high standards in all facets of the ongoing operation and maintenance of the plant .
The Power Plant Technician, also known as a Power Station Operator Maintainer, works within the Operations team that operates and monitors the power stations 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This is a shift role that will require you to work on a rotating 36 hour per week roster.
The purpose of the role is to ensure the safe, reliable, efficient operation and maintenance of Tallawarra Power Station; ensuring safety, environmental, statutory, generation, commercial, and asset management related performance targets are met in a self-managed and multi-skilled work environment.
Specific duties include, but are not limited to the following:
Operate the Power Plants in a safe, reliable, and efficient manner in compliance with operating procedures, statutory regulations, and company policy.
Liaise with EnergyAustralia’s Physical Markets and Trading teams regarding the bidding strategy and operational requirements of the plant to ensure that generation and production targets are met.
Ensure the Safe Access Rules are implemented and adhered to for access to plant by preparing isolations and issuing work authorities and permits.
Complete breakdown, defect, routine, and planned maintenance activities . Identify and assess plant defects and troubleshoot fault solutions.
Assist with the investigation and reporting of all accidents and incidents
Ensure all operational and maintenance activities meet the requirements of Regulations, Licences, applicable Standards and Agreements.
Perform Electrical switching operations on both LV and HV apparatus
Respond to incidents by executing the Emergency Response Plan and working as part of the incident management team.
What we are looking for:
Trade qualification in Electrical or Mechanical or equivalent
National Licence to perform High Risk Work – Advanced Boiler & Steam Turbine Operations (Preferred)
Prior experience in DCS operations within a heavy industry setting
HV Electrical Operations experience – (Preferrable)
Experience with gas turbine / generator operations – Desirable
Three to five years’ experience in Power generation, or equivalent heavy industry related fields
Experience with shift work
