Primary Teacher Position Available

Giant Steps Tasmania is an independent school for students with autism. We aim to create a safe and inspirational learning environment for students on the autism spectrum, where difference is celebrated, and authentic relationships are fostered.

WE ARE CURRENTLY SEEKING A FULL TIME PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHER TO JOIN OUR TEAM.

What to expect?

You will receive support and mentoring from our Leadership Team and enjoy the support and assistance of a team of experienced teacher aides in your classroom. We aim to foster collaborative planning and promote a culture of learning.

Students at Giant Steps Tasmania learn from the Australian Curriculum, requiring teachers to develop skills in differentiation and curriculum knowledge, in order to make appropriate adjustments to ensure learning is meaningful and students learn successfully. Each student also has an Individual Learning Plan (IEP), requiring teachers to develop skills in goal setting and program planning.

The school’s interventions and support programs that focus on students’ communication skills, self-regulation, and social/emotional skills are equally important to the academic curriculum. Our student-centered approach to learning requires teachers to work with our occupational therapist to cater to each child’s academic, social, personal, and emotional needs. 

What are we looking for? 

 A desire to work with students with a difference. Celebrating their uniqueness with a positive outlook. 

A willingness to develop skills in differentiating teaching and learning, providing adjustments or applying the principles of Universal Design for Learning, to cater to diverse needs.

A willingness to support our students with their academic, personal and social goals in an empathetic and supportive manner. 

A willingness to develop skills in planning and assessment using the Australian Curriculum. 

A willingness to develop skills in planning effectively for multi-age groupings using an age-appropriate curriculum.

Work as a member of a dedicated team of professional staff who are passionate about providing quality teaching and learning and value respect, individuality, honesty and collaboration.

Teachers who are currently registered or eligible for registration with the Teachers’ Registration Board of Tasmania and qualified to teach.

Appointment of successful applicants will be made subject to satisfactory pre-employment conditions check (including a Police Check and presentation of a current Working with Vulnerable People card).

Induction and support programs will be provided.
