MBC stretches beyond the classroom and offers girls the chance to explore their identities, while harnessing success. With 115 years of history, the College is well established with extensive libraries, sports, state-of-the-art music and performance centre, an Olympic sized swimming pool and a chapel. In 2014, the College completed a state-of-the-art Science Centre, featuring eight laboratories, a growth room and four experimental investigation rooms.
THE POSITION
We are seeking two suitably qualified Full Time Primary Teachers, for Semester 2, 2024.
All teachers are appointed by the CEO and Executive Principal of MBC and MBBC and they are responsible to them for the over-all performance of their duties. The CEO and Executive Principal delegates their authority to senior staff members for the effective management of the College. This role will report directly to the Head of Primary.
The College offers a very broad program in sporting, musical and pastoral activities which are designed to enhance the holistic development of the students. Staff are expected to participate in the co-curricular program of the College. By participating in the College’s co-curricular program it is recognised that a teacher is contributing to the mission and ethos of the College.
All staff need to be supportive of the values, Christian ethos and Ethical Statement of this Uniting Church day school for girls from EL-12.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The teacher is required to:
- Perform conscientiously and competently the duties, both teaching and non-teaching, assigned by the CEO and Executive Principal.
- Perform such duties as are customarily rostered and shared by all staff, and such other duties as may be agreed upon by the CEO and Executive Principal and teacher.
- Co-operate with the senior staff in the organisation and management of the College and maintain such records as may be required by the College.
- Take part in professional development activities and other in-service courses provided by the College or recommended by the CEO and Executive Principal or his delegate.
- Help foster good relations between parents, the community and the College.
- Help promote a spirit of unity among the staff.
- Be actively involved in supporting the College co-curricular activities and special events.
- Be positive in support of the College rules, tradition and Christian ethos, both within the College and outside.
- Actively contribute to a safety citizenship culture upholding health and safety policies, procedures, hazard reporting and safe work practices.
The Class Teacher is required to:
- Demonstrate a capacity for high standards in teaching and learning.
- Plan effectively for deep learning using the Australian Curriculum through a structured inquiry based approach.
- Be willing to work within/learn about the pedagogical framework of the International Baccalaureate Primary Years program.
- Effectively monitor, assess and report on student performance.
- Report to parents at interview and through written reports.
- Respond to the needs of individual students as required.
- Attend all meetings as designated by the Executive Principal or Head of Primary.
- Notify the Deputy Head of Primary as soon as possible re absence from duty. Work must be set for classes whenever possible.
- Supervise classes of absent teachers when required.
- Plan collaboratively in a team for student learning.
- Perform playground and bus duty and/or car duty on a regular basis.
- Seek permission for excursions from the Deputy Head of Primary and complete all necessary documentation.
- Mark the roll each morning and inform the Primary Receptionist of unexplained absentees.
- Make routine checks of uniform and personal appearance of students.
- Inspect homework for proper completion; make regular checks of Home Learning Diaries.
- Manage student behaviour positively and maintain a healthy learning environment.
- Set realistic times and dates for completion of homework and assignments.
- Plan for and deliver Parent-Teacher/Three-way/Student-led Conferences and Parent Workshop evenings when required.
- Abide by the dress code as set down for staff at the College.
- Attend Chapel Services and Assemblies as required.
- Attend designated College functions.
- Student Teachers where and when applicable.
- Parent helpers where and when applicable.
The Classroom Teacher needs to display the ability to:
- Articulate their philosophy of learning.

- Provide challenging, student-centred approaches to learning.
- Communicate and interact openly and effectively.
- Use technologies effectively in the teaching/learning program.

- An interest or experience in the International Baccalaureate Primary Years Program would be an advantage.

The Classroom Teacher
- Must hold an appropriate tertiary qualification – Bachelor Degree in Education.
- Must be registered with the Queensland College of Teachers.
- Each teacher is resourced with a desk, computer, shared preparation room and filing cabinet.
- Classrooms, IT Laboratories, Library and Primary Common Room are air-conditioned.
