About the Role

This senior, highly experienced communications role is responsible for developing and maintaining strategic and trusted partnerships with operational and functional business leaders, coaching team members and stakeholders, generating mastery-level content and delivering high value communications strategies that promote and protect BHPs strategic themes and positioning.

  • Develop and manage day-to-day mastery-level employee and stakeholder communications with a strong editorial focus, set direction for peers and stakeholders, and ensuring quality is controlled.
  • Develop high-value content on key Company issues such as safety, climate change, Inclusion and Diversity, Indigenous Engagement, a winning portfolio, and operational performance.
  • Have an expert understanding of various channel strategies and work across the team to maximise content distribution.
  • Operate as a ‘trusted advisor', providing strategic communications advice and delivering strategies to achieve key business outcomes.
  • Lead the development and delivery of highly effective and comprehensive multi-disciplinary issues and stakeholder management plans and strategies.
  • Participate in EMT/IMTs as a highly competent, senior member of BHP's crisis communications team.
  • Lead strategic engagements in line with Engagement and Positioning Plans, partnering with key senior stakeholders in the development and delivery of high value, speeches, presentations and integrated leveraging plans.
  • Create mastery-level campaigns and content, and manage local social media and digital channels in line with Asset/Function strategy.
  • Assist the Communication Manager in mentoring, developing, and supporting capability and capacity growth within the team.
  • Effectively work across the Global Assets & Functions Communications team, and actively collaborate with colleagues in Corporate Affairs and Corporate Communications to deliver measurable results.
About You
  • Tertiary qualifications and min. 8-10 years' relevant experience in leadership and communications.
  • Mastery-level written skills across all channels, including leadership communications, speeches, etc.
  • Expert understanding of digital tools and platforms, both internal and external.
  • Excellent business partnering skills and experience.
  • Highly accomplished project/time management skills.
  • Very strong ability to collaborate and build strong networks across the company.
  • Confidence to provide effective feedback, motivate, drive, and connect peers.
  • Extensive issues and stakeholder management experience at all levels.
  • Senior analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Superior attention to detail, and quality-control.
  • Highly competent operating without supervision.
  • Very proactive, highly motivated, comfortable with ambiguity, calm under pressure.
  • Respectful and respected role model of BHP's values.
