Job Description
About the role:
OceanaGold is seeking a professional and highly motivated individual to join Sustainability team. Reporting to the Group Manager Environment, you will coordinate and manage the delivery of the Junction Reefs mine relinquishment multi-year work program, to enable successful relinquishment and support the implementation of the multi-year group environment plan.
Key tasks and responsibilities:
Junction Reefs Relinquishment
Develop and review technical scopes of work to progress rehabilitation and remediation solutions for closure and rehabilitation. Including (but not limited to) – contaminated land, water quality, ecological assessments.
Directly manage and direct consultants and contractors in the delivery of technical scopes of works.
Review technical reports and outputs to inform further works required for relinquishment, as well as to inform updates of closure and rehabilitation criteria, plans and schedules.
Co-ordinate and manage delivery of all regulatory reporting requirements and ensure timely submission to the regulator.
Prepare monthly project progress and budget (spend vs actual and forecast) reports to ensure timely updates are provided to the project Steering Committee.
Develop annual budget requirements and manage the project effectively within budget.
Coordinate and manage the project Steering Committee
Liaise with and coordinate with the NSW Resources Regulator and Mining, Exploration and Geoscience, to confirm and progress relinquishment approach (in accordance with the Mining Act 1992).
Liaise with other NSW state and local regulators (EPA, local councils), and provide progress updates against relinquishment plan.
Liaise with local landholders to manage and implement access agreement, provide progress updates on relinquishments, and facilitate landholder relinquishment sign off process.
Group Environment
Develop documentation and guidance material to support a consistent approach and implementation for group Environmental Performance Standards, processes and systems.
Collate, consolidate, and analyse environment related data (including incidents, water, biodiversity, waste, etc.) and information required for internal (monthly and quarterly) reporting and annual external reporting.
Support the review, update and consolidation of operational risk assessments.
Support the implementation of the multi-year environmental work plan for water management, biodiversity and circular economy; and the development of group wide metrics and KPIs for these identified focus areas.
Qualifications
Tertiary qualifications in Environmental Science, Engineering, or an environmentally related discipline.
10 + years demonstrated experience in an environmental role, preferably including experience working as an on-site environmental specialist in the extractive industries such as mining, oil & gas, or other heavy industry.
Knowledge of NSW Mining Act and relevant mine closure and rehabilitation, and mining lease relinquishment process.
