Cross River Rail will transform the way we travel to, from and through Brisbane in the future. It will be a catalyst for 10 years of wider rail transformation across the whole of South East Queensland and it is already playing a key role in how we prepare for the 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Cross River Rail is a new 10.2km rail line including 5.9km of twin tunnels running under the Brisbane River and CBD. It includes the delivery of four new underground stations, two new above-ground stations, accessibility rebuilds for six stations, the construction of three new stations on the Gold Coast, and the introduction of a new world-class 'ETCS' signalling system.

This is a once in a lifetime opportunity to work on one of Australia's largest infrastructure projects and to be a part of something that will leave a lasting legacy for generations to come.

About the Role:

This position provides essential environmental management and program support to the Cross River Rail project to ensure alignment with relevant environmental, heritage and sustainability outcomes and approvals. Key functions include the review of management plans and approvals, site surveillance and compliance management. The position will require multidisciplinary relationships to be developed across the Delivery Authority, with our key contractors and external project stakeholders. To be successful in this role you will have the ability to provide practical advice, analysis and influence a wide range of stakeholders on matters relating to environmental, approval, sustainability and heritage. Reporting to the Environment and Approvals Manager, you will be working from our modern corporate offices in Brisbane's CBD.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide pragmatic advice on environmental, approval, sustainability, and heritage matters including the development of reporting, briefings and guidelines as required.
  • Collaborate with delivery partners and contractors to efficiently manage environmental and approval outcomes.
  • Assist in implementing and managing environmental obligations outlined in project plans and statutory requirements.
  • Support the attainment of environmental approvals necessary for project design and delivery including review of contractors designs and construction plans.
  • Guide and Support contracts to manage environmental risks and issues across construction and commissioning phases.
  • Maintain Project Approval and Compliance registers.
  • Contribute to the development, implementation and improvements to Environmental Assurance and Management Systems.
  • Assist in programming and scheduling environmental activities for the project.
  • Assist in the procurement and management of contractors, including environmental consultants and advisors.
  • Compile and examine project environmental data for compliance reporting.

About You:

  • Proven experience in environmental, heritage and sustainability management and management systems within a Project delivery framework.
  • Understanding of Queensland and Commonwealth environmental legislation and approvals.
  • Strong technical environmental skills and demonstrated report writing and reviewing capability, including competency in interpreting technical schedules.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including presentation and communication skills and the ability to present well-reasoned points of view.
  • Knowledge and experience in the application of the Infrastructure Sustainability Council project rating process to infrastructure projects would be viewed favourably.
  • Degree in Environmental Engineering, Science, Management or Planning.
  • Ability to obtain applicable Queensland Rail Industry Worker certifications.
