Position Overview:

We seek a dynamic professional who is well-versed in Environmental Health. You will leverage your expertise in this role with all Environmental Health matters. As the subject matter expert, you will be presented with an opportunity to influence the future of the town significantly and directly contribute to improving the well-being of its residents and visitors.

Key Responsibilities:

You will experience a diverse role working across all aspects of the Environmental Health functions including:

  • Managing the day-to-day operations of Environmental Health Services and provide support and advice to the Chief of Community Planning and Place, ensuring strategic outcomes and organisational goals and objectives are achieved. 
  • Demonstrate leadership within the organisation. 
  • Provide specialist technical advice on all Environmental Health matters.
  • Proactive and responsive monitoring and education of food premises, skin penetration premises, on-site wastewater management systems and public aquatic facilities;
  • Investigate, manage and resolve public health, environmental and noise complaints;
  • Provide high quality technical advice to Town Planning and Building services through the timely completion of development application referrals; and
  • Liaise with and provide advice to a variety of stakeholders including Council staff, consultants, residents, State Government Departments and agencies.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Relevant experience in a similar role, within Local Government.
  • Degree or Postgraduate tertiary qualifications in Environmental Health accredited by Environmental Health Australia or qualifications and experience that are substantially equivalent and appropriate to undertake the role of Environmental Health Officer.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience applying relevant legislation to undertake the key accountabilities of an Environmental Health Officer.
  • Demonstrated skills in proactive coordination, development, implementation and review of health and environmental programs.
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution, negotiation, facilitation, and public speaking.
  • Eligibility for appointment as “Authorised Noise Officer”.
  • Possess highly developed written and verbal communications skills including the ability to communicate with a range of stakeholders, both internal and external.
  • Proven ability to employ good judgement and effectively utilise discretion in a regulatory environment.

The following would be desirable but not essential:

  • Experience in process mapping, review, and development.
