Our Opportunity
Work Location: Fortescue Centre & Bennett St. Fortescue's Perth office is located on the traditional lands of the Whadjuk people. (Flexible on location)
The Principal, Global Approvals will be responsible for building approvals and compliance business systems to support our international Energy project portfolio as well as providing advice and support for the development of project approvals strategies.
Key Responsibilities
  • Support regional and project teams to develop early-stage approvals strategies and work plans
  • Project Management large-scale primary approvals and studies, including budgeting and contractor's scopes of work
  • Work collaboratively with environmental, social and land teams to identify approvals risks, and develop project workplans and schedules
  • Support the business to identify and establish a fit-for-purpose approvals information system
  • Development and implementation of business systems to actively manage approvals risk, including identification, planning, tracking, and reporting of regulatory approvals/compliance activities
  • Development of corporate approvals standards, policies, and guidelines, as required, to position Fortescue for approvals assurance throughout the global reach of the business
Qualifications and Experience
  • Degree qualified or equivalent tertiary qualifications and/or relevant work / industry experience in technical area within the renewables/resource industry (e.g. Engineering, Environmental, OHS, Legal)
  • 10+ years' experience in an approvals and regulatory compliance role within the energy and/or resources sector or similar
  • Proven international experience with large-scale project delivery
  • Experience with development of business systems and solutions architecture to support project compliance
  • Demonstrates strong communication and negotiation skills to influence internal and external stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability and experience in interfacing and influencing regulators, stakeholders and senior management
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and relationship building/collaboration skills
  • Ability to adapt to highly varying cultural contexts, as well as work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Experienced in navigating corporate and joint venture governance and approval processes
  • Highly organized and ability to manage work across multiple global jurisdictions
  • Proven Project Management experience for large scale infrastructure projects
  • Proficiency in risk identification and budget forecasting
  • Highly motivated to work in an emerging green industry
  • Uses initiative, demonstrates resilience and a continuous improvement mindset and proactive approach to problem solving
  • High levels of self-motivation
  • Ability to be agile and resilient when managing diverse workloads with multiple priorities and delivering work to a high quality and on time
  • Willing to work outside 'traditional' office hours to interact with international offices
