About the Role
A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a Principal, Government Affairs to join the Santos team. Based at our Global Headquarters in Adelaide, this position will have a requirement for travel to Canberra for fifteen weeks of the year. Reporting to the Head of External Affairs you will be responsible for the provision of strategic government relations leadership and advice, the identification of risks and opportunities for Santos, and the implementation of best in class advocacy. This will be achieved by building and maintain strategic working relationships with relevant Australian Federal political and departmental stakeholders.
Key accountabilities:
- Act as a primary liaison between Santos and Federal Political and Departmental stakeholders.
- Implement a comprehensive and proactive government relations strategy at the Federal Government level, addressing key policy areas of interest to Santos.
- Provide timely and effective reporting advice on Federal political issues to the Santos leadership team.
- Be a strategic leader and role model for government relationships and communications.
- Provide strategic advice and support the CEO and Executive Team as necessary on government engagement/trips
- Respond proactively with issues/stakeholder management plans working collaboratively with key internal stakeholders.
- Provide outstanding senior-level representation, advocacy and engagement at internal and external stakeholder meetings
- Collaborate with members of the External Affairs team in other jurisdictions on relevant government and regulatory affairs matters.
Holding a tertiary qualification in commerce, business, politics, communications or similar, it is essential that the successful candidate can demonstrate achievement in a professional government or regulatory affairs role. You will also possess an understanding of commercial issues and regulatory impacts and bring your advanced writing, editing and verbal communication skills, along with excellent negotiation skills.
Ideally you bring your demonstrated experience in the energy/ resources sector from the public and or private sectors. You should also have exposure to emissions reduction initiatives in the energy sector and any experience in influence in emerging regulatory regimes will be held in high esteem.
