The Office of Australian War Graves, Trade Services Manager will be based at the Office of Australian War Graves South Australia Depot.
Under the direction of the State Operations Manager the Trade Services Manager is responsible for supporting all OAWG care and maintenance activities in the State or Territory and provide specialist operational support to other OAWG Depots. This requires the programming of work for staff and contractors to carry out horticultural and structural maintenance and the management of minor projects. The OAWG assets include war cemeteries, Gardens of Remembrance, and numerous official commemorations in general cemeteries throughout Australia.
The Trade Services Manager assists in the supervision of staff and contractors and provides assistance in ensuring they operate in a safe and appropriate manner and therefore must be able to demonstrate the management of multiple public horticultural facilities within Commonwealth and State legislation and regulations.
As an OAWG representative, the Trade Services Manager is required to liaise with Department of Veterans’ Affairs staff, ex-Service organisations, veterans’ and their families, cemetery authorities, local and State authorities, and funeral providers on matters relating to OAWG business.
The OAWG Trade Services Manager must be able to demonstrate an ability to represent the Commonwealth as an official at international and national fora and have an understanding of military commemorative services.
Intrastate and interstate travel is a requirement of this position resulting in time away from home base for periods of up to a week at a time.
The key duties of the position include:
• Perform duties under limited supervision in remote locations, including working independently as directed.
• Carry out/oversee a range of trade level turf management and horticultural works.
• Provide appropriate guidance, support and mentoring to staff and contractors in order to achieve service delivery standards.
• Operate plant, machinery and vehicles.
• Carry out/oversee structural works such as minor landscape construction, stonemasonry, concreting and memorial maintenance tasks.
• Operate and maintain ICT devices and relevant systems for recording and controlling computer data input into the War Graves System.
• Contribute to the planning, allocation and monitoring of team tasks and motivation the overall workforce including contractors.
• Implement and monitor WH&S policies and procedures.
• Provide support to the State Operations Manager in the administration of the work program and supervision of staff and contractors.
• Provide point of contact for enquiries from the general public, ex-service organisations, contractors and cemetery authorities.
Eligibility
Applicants must be an Australian citizen to apply.
The Trade Services Manager is required to have a minimum Certificate III in Horticulture (or like field experience) and current driving licence.

This recruitment process is being used to fill an ongoing position.
A merit pool of suitable applicants may be created which may be used to fill future ongoing and non-ongoing vacancies should they become available over the next 18 months.
Where a non-ongoing position is offered, the role will be filled for an initial specified term of up to 12 months.
Successful applicants engaged into the APS will be subject to a probation period.
