About the Role

Reporting to the Lead of Inbound Maritime MinAus, this role will be responsible for managing and building the operations logistics demand in Minerals Australia. This role enables the Inbound Maritime team to operate in a well governed, yet efficient manner, and to provide supply chain expertise in the international inbound freight to our business optimising the freight choices when procuring goods to deliver bottom line cost savings focusing on the risk lens.

In this role, you will be : 

  • The focal point for all logistics demand with Procurement/Operations in Australia
  • Develop effective relationships with internal stakeholders and work closely with Assets, Procurement and Inventory.
  • Transform BHP’s Inbound Supply Chain by insourcing freight requirements to BHP’s MSC function.
  • Applying an understanding of the end-to-end Supply Chain to enhance efficiency, drive optimisation, and maximise value.
  • Identify opportunities to collaborate with internal stakeholders to manage shipments from source to site
  • Analyse opportunities and advise on preferred transportation method (s) in a timely manner
  • Working alongside Procurement (OPEX and CAPEX) to provide detailed inbound supply chain expertise advising on freight cost choices in the procurement of goods internationally.
  • Executing and optimising shipping practices by applying material, ship and port knowledge.
  • Applying logistics management procedures and requirements to safely and efficiently meet stakeholder demands.
  • Gaining support for and negotiating outcomes that achieve mutually beneficial goals.
  • Supporting the management of vendor/customer selection, contracts, and performance to maximise operational and financial outcomes and mitigate BHP’s exposure to risk.
  • Planning, tracking the delivery of and manages a project to generate value and drive the achievement of project outcomes.
  • Identifying and assessing risks, making risk informed decisions, using BHP’s risk management framework and building a risk aware culture to support safe and productive performance outcomes.

About You

  • Must have Experience in Chartering for Bulk and break bulk shipments
  • Experience in Chartering for Container Shipments
  • Experience working in a project logistics/freight forwarding company
  • Experience in managing OPEX and Capex project logistics in a mining or oil/gas environment
  • Experience with containerized, out of gauge and break bulk cargo 
  • Familiarity with export and import regulations 
  • Collaborative team player that can work in a global, diverse team
  • Strong customer service skills
  • Skilled with developing and communicating strategies and complex messages to stakeholders 
  • Embraces an attitude as a self-starter, with an eye for detail and agility to change
  • Demonstrates creative thinking, pursuing new and unique approaches to tackling challenges
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to express details and facts in a confident and articulate manner
  • Superior interpersonal skills to engage, influence and build solid working relationships with stakeholders across the organization
  • Analytical thinking, ability to effectively convey compelling value propositions and work to build consensus.
  • Experience with MS Office (Excel, Word, PPT)
