Principal Mechanical Engineer

Queensland Rail has a rare permanent full-time opportunity to join our Rollingstock Maintenance Engineering team in the role of Principal Mechanical Engineer, located at Bowen Hills, Brisbane. As a Principal Mechanical Engineer, you'll have the opportunity to take lead on projects and drive meaningful change in our maintenance practices. You will be able to practically apply your technical knowledge and experience to a range of engineering situations and have a mix of tasks that involve maintenance requirements development, fault finding and testing of rollingstock, and investigating solutions for a range of rollingstock initiatives. In our collaborative environment, you'll lead a small team of engineers and have the chance to make a meaningful impact on the future of rail transport in Queensland. What you will bring:

High level of Mechanical knowledge of technical operations and ability to identify maintenance requirements to maintain equipment. Skill and experience in undertaking technical investigations, testing, problem solving, trial modifications and preparation of technical reports to improve rollingstock performance, reliability, safety and cost. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of a team within a diverse environment and willingness to coach and mentor team members. Minimum 5 years Mechanical Engineering experience working with heavy industry machinery/equipment.

Formal qualification and other requirements: Candidates at the time of application will be able to demonstrate that they currently hold the below qualifications and meet the employment eligibility requirements:

Hold a Professional Bachelor of Engineering Mechanical qualification (recognised under the Washington Accord or demonstrated by ‘an entry to practice competently’ having been awarded to you by Engineers Australia and accepted by Queensland Rail). Registered Professional Engineer Queensland (RPEQ).
