Wood is currently recruiting for a Principal Piping Designer for our Melbourne CBD Office. Reporting to the Lead Piping Engineer, the successful candidate will be responsible for design, specification and services related to piping systems and piping layout including piping material selection, piping material line classes, standard and specialty piping components, pressure, weight and thermal analysis of piping systems, vibration analysis and piping support systems.

- To have a full understanding of the project’s scope, overall schedule, deliverables, milestones, manhour budgets, industry standards, applicable codes, and procedures.
- To be highly capable and confident in developing brownfields concepts, FEED through to execution, in a seamless fashion working with all other disciplines in design and Engineering project personnel
- Sound interpersonal skills, liaising with members of other disciplines and departments
- Apply an awareness and willingness to work as a team member
- Site experience with the capability to perform field walk downs using P&ID’s, locating tie points dimensionally, and routing pipe through existing facilities. Locate and identify pipe support types
- Ensure open communication between stakeholders including peers and Project Managers to ensure schedules are met in accordance with project requirements
- Quality Assurance – work within the provisions and guidelines of the Quality Assurance systems. Ensuring technical correctness and compliance with standard procedures and design basis

- Assist in the technical/commercial preparation of bid and tender packages
- Safety – Responsible for personal safety and working within the Occupational Health & Safety procedures
- 2 to 3 year's technical diploma with piping design specific training or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
- Minimum 10+ years of piping design experience
- Familiar with the prime drivers related to Queensland’s coal seam gas industry.
- Willingness to travel and undertake site surveys in Queensland’s northern and central region.
- Site experience is an added advantage
- Significant experience using MicroStation and OpenPlant
- Experience with Hexagon's SmartPlant 3D or Aveva's E3D software is a plus point
- Strong understanding of using point cloud and ability to interpret flange survey results
- Familiar with laser scanning and conventional surveying techniques
