  • SCHADS Level 8, $122,745 (plus super and salary packaging)

Role Purpose

As the Principal Policy & Advocacy Advisor at Good Shepherd Institute (GSI), your primary responsibility is to lead and execute the organisation's policy and advocacy-related initiatives. With your expertise in social policy and research, this role will focus on executing policy and advocacy-related work, collaborate across teams to guide decision-making and project execution aiming to drive impact for audacious and bold reform, and ensuring that policy projects and research support the organization's strategic impact areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identifying opportunities and prioritising, coordinating, and allocating policy and advocacy strategies/projects and relevant research across the PASI team in collaboration with internal and where relevant external stakeholders, in line with the Good Shepherd strategy impact areas.
  • Identify and incorporate emerging national and international research and policy developments relevant to Good Shepherd’s impact areas.
  • Ensure projects comply with relevant Good Shepherd policies regarding quality, ethics, and reporting.
  • Work closely with all areas of Good Shepherd and Good Shepherd Institute to identify emerging trends that can inform policy, research, and evaluation priorities.
  • Provide supervision and support to direct reports, PASI team members, interns, post graduate students, and other GSI and GS staff as required.

About you

  • Relevant post-graduate (Masters of PhD) tertiary qualifications in social sciences, social work, law, policy or other related disciplines and experience working within a not-for-profit organisation.
  • High level writing skills that can be applied to a range of documentation and audiences, as well as facilitation and presentation skills.
  • Extensive and demonstrated research and evaluation experience and knowledge (5+ years) in the areas of social-ecological models, climate justice, social justice, family violence, child and family services, CALD, gender equality, economic abuse, and / or financial wellbeing. In particular, experience working in the community sector, peak body, government department or statutory authority.
