The work area
These roles sits within the Economic Policy Directorate which is part of the Economic business unit. This directorate is responsible for driving whole-of-government strategic economic reform, driving better regulation across the State’s public sector and analysing and providing advice on key economic policy issues.
The opportunity

We have two available Principal Policy Analyst positions in the Economic Strategy, Engagement and Diversification team, and one Principal Policy Economist position in the Economic Modelling and Policy team.
In the Principal Policy Analyst roles, you will:
- Provide evidence-based advice on key economic policies, often with an industry focus, including the WA Government’s economic diversification agenda and other strategic projects and policies.
- Work with other team members to implement and manage Treasury’s economic engagement program, including delivering Treasury’s annual conference for economic policymakers in the public sector.
- Work collaboratively with other areas of Treasury and other government agencies to develop advice and briefing notes in short timeframes on a range of issues related to economic growth and living standards.
- Have an active role in mentoring junior team members with opportunities to supervise graduates/interns within the team.
- Identify economic reform opportunities and develop evidence-based recommendations for policy changes.
- Lead research projects on the impact and policy implications of key structural changes in the WA economy, including working with economic modellers to incorporate quantitative analysis.
- Contribute to and coordinate Treasury's input to interjurisdictional forums on whole-of-economy policy issues, such as competition reform and productivity.
- Have an active role in mentoring junior team members with opportunities to supervise graduates/interns within the team.
