Period of Appointment

Fixed Term - 24 Months

Hours per fortnight

73.50 hours per fortnight - flexible options available. 

Duties
  • Lead and undertake complex policy development providing specialist and authoritative policy advice to the Independent Regulator and their delegates on best practice to the promotion of the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Framework, Child Safe Standards and the Reportable Conduct Scheme across the Tasmanian Community.
  • Apply expertise, undertake proactive research and analysis, and prepare and provide relevant and authoritative policy to the Office of the Independent Regulator and portfolio streams.
  • Lead contemporary research to inform the monitoring and review of organisations providing services to children and young people across Tasmania.
  • Work with the executive to set the strategic direction of the Office and to provide input into the business planning processes to ensure outcomes are achieved.
  • Participate in state and national forums as relevant to the functions of theOffice of the Independent Regulator (the Office) and to actively inform themselves on relevant research and to contribute to the communication and engagement strategies of the Office.
  • Develop and maintain effective collaborative relationships with representatives of the community, not for profit agencies, relevant community groups, peak bodies and service providers including state, interstate jurisdictions, non-government organisations and engage and liaise with key stakeholders, including where relevant, children, young people and their families and carers.
  • Contribute to the development of high-quality publications, resources and other initiatives with respect to the wellbeing of children and young people in the context of their safety within their involvement in organisations. 
  • Lead and undertake high level research on complex matters for the preparation of correspondence, briefings, presentations or media releases and speech notes for the Independent Regulator or their Deputies. 
  • Perform other duties as envisaged by the assigned classification under the relevant award and in accordance with the skills, competence and training of the occupant as required.
  • Aware of obligations under the Child and Youth Safe Organisations Act, 2023 and other relevant statutes policies and regulations as may be required.
Essential Requirements
  • Employment to the Office is subject to the satisfactory completion of security and related vetting including satisfactory a current Tasmanian Working with Vulnerable Persons Check (WWVP).

Desirable Requirements
  • Tertiary qualifications in law, social work or related behavioural science or discipline
  • Prior significant experience in a Policy role
