About the Role

 

BHP provides risk management support services to regional project teams under a Global Risk Model through the Project Controls & Analysis function. This entails a centralised hub of Project Risk management experts reporting to Leads across our major operating regions in Minerals Australia, Minerals America and Potash. 

 

Our vision, as a Global Risk Team, is to lead risk excellence in partnership with our project teams. We are responsible for the provision of high-quality advisory and governance services, and partner with our client project teams using risk management as a vehicle to maximise the business value derived from our investments.

 

We are currently seeking to invite a highly motivated person to join our Olympic Dam Asset Projects (ODAP) Team in a Project Risk Principal role. Reporting to the Project Risk Lead, you will be part of the ODAP Risk team whilst providing Level 1 risk support to the Olympic Dam Asset Projects team. This will involve specialization in Project Risk management, Project Risk processes, and effective management of these to safety and effective support in the delivery of successful projects. 

 

Other key accountabilities will include:
 

  • Coach project leaders in the application of risk management principles to maximise business value from investment decisions
  • Guide project teams to identify and record all material and non-material risks in accordance with BHP Risk Management requirements.
  • Facilitate the process to capture material risks in 1SAP GRC.
  • Design and develop tailored risk management approach suitable for individual projects dependent on maturity of investment decision and lifecycle phase and document this in project work plans
  • Facilitate the process to identify and assess Project/ Portfolio/Program as per the portfolio of projects assigned to the role.
  • Participate and deliver coaching to build capability in the application of the risk management framework within project teams.
  • Actively engage and influence project stakeholders
  • Facilitate risk assessment workshops.
  • Support the Projects to comply with Our Requirements of Risk Management of Project Risk assessments.
  • Support projects with verifications of controls

About You


The successful applicant will have a sound level of commercial acumen and a clear understanding of governance, Project Risk management and compliance frameworks or similar in adjacent industries, such as processing, construction, or oil and gas. Your success will be heavily influenced by your strong communication and interpersonal skills, coupled with your ability to identify issues before they arise.

 

The successful candidate will also have:

 

  • Strong business acumen to support robust Project Risk management and alignment with organisational strategy and objectives. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills with a demonstrable ability to influence senior project leaders 
  • Demonstrated risk management experience in operations or projects in Mineral Processing, Construction, heavy industry, mining or oil & gas.
  • Knowledge of professional standards (ISO31000, RIMS, PMBOK, etc)
  • Demonstrated experience working across multi-discipline large programs / projects
  • Contribution in senior roles to a high performing, autonomous team.
  • Able to demonstrate an aptitude for developing and maintaining effective stakeholder relationships at all levels.
  • Demonstrate the confidence to lead by example, hold yourself and others accountable and coach others in ‘Safety Leadership’.

In this full-time role, you will be based in Adelaide, offering a quality standard of living without the high costs of most other Australian capital cities. You will be working on a Monday-Friday roster and occasional site travel.
