The work area
This role sits within the Better Regulation Unit in the Economic Policy Directorate. The Better Regulation Unit is a small, highly responsive and committed team that works in partnership with agencies to ensure high-quality analysis underpins regulatory decision making. This includes:
- providing information on the Better Regulation Program and how it can be used to develop and design regulatory proposals that support improved economic, environmental and social outcomes for Western Australians;
- providing guidance, support and training to public sector regulators, particularly in designing and developing regulatory proposals; and
- proactively engaging with public sector regulators to build and enhance capability, including in regulatory impact assessment.
The opportunity

A great opportunity exists to join the Better Regulation Unit to drive best practice regulation across the public sector, supporting agencies to design and develop regulatory proposals and provide robust, evidence-based advice on their impacts, consistent with the Better Regulation Program. Reporting to the Manager, Regulation and Wages Policy, you will also collaborate with key stakeholders across all public sector regulatory agencies and build regulatory capability across the public sector.
Our ideal candidate will have experience in:
- critically analysing regulatory or policy proposals to ensure they are well-designed, meet intended outcomes, are risk-based and proportionate;
- assessing the costs, benefits and risks of different regulatory or policy options; and
- working collaboratively with a broad range of stakeholders and providing advice to maximise the net benefits of policy or regulatory proposals for the community.
