About four million people live within the Diocesan area, including more than 500,000 Anglicans. In ACSQ, there are approximately 507 clergy across more than 130 parishes. The Clergy form an integral part of the faith community and include archdeacons, canons, priests, deacons, and lay people serving in various ministries.
The Office of Professional Standards is responsible for the establishment and management of Safe Ministry and Child Protection practices. Working in accordance with the values and ethos of the Anglican Church, its Canons, and Codes of Conduct, it supports the operations of the organisation by providing guidance, advice, and support across aspects which include investigations, child protection audits, and safe ministry training.
The Principal Research Officer position is permanent full-time. The role’s purpose includes providing high-level advice to the Director of Professional Standards in relation to complaints of sexual misconduct and child sexual abuse, as well as assisting the Director with the development and implementation of policies to assist ACSQ’s commitment to providing a safe environment for children, young people, and vulnerable persons in ACSQ.
On a day-to-day basis, working alongside the Director, you will be responsible for:
- Providing high-level support and advice to the Director in relation to information and complaints received;
- Researching and advising on current legislation, bills, and related material;
- Providing high-quality support to the Director in designing, drafting, and implementing policies; and
- Assisting with the design and implementation of systems for the management, screening, and training of clergy, employees, and volunteers in accordance with legislation and policies.
The ideal candidate will hold a relevant Tertiary qualification. Candidates from legal, social work, education, counseling, or psychology backgrounds are encouraged to apply. You will be required to demonstrate:
- Experience in providing high-quality advice and recommendations;
- Experience in both policy analysis and undertaking related research;
- Experience or capacity for designing and drafting policies and systems for the safety of children, young people, and vulnerable persons in an institutional setting;
- Skill with PC windows-based systems, including the Microsoft suite of products;
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including document presentation; and
- The ability to undertake the role with integrity and confidentiality at all times.
