The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Technical Tester (automation specialist), this role will be sitting within a skilled testing team, working within the centralised Business Information Systems directorate that provides integral IT support to DoT’s business units.

This is an exciting opportunity to take the lead in quality testing services for our operational systems across the Department and set the direction of innovative technology for Transport.  

In the role of Principal Technical Tester, you will ensure the ongoing administration of the Transport Executive Licensing Information System (TRELIS) and manage the development and implementation of comprehensive automated testing regimes and procedures for various information system products.

You will also coordinate, design, develop and implement test strategies prior to the release of information systems, lead and mentor Technical Testers and oversee the development of manuals, processes and procedures.

Ideally you will have both business and systems focus. You will have the ability to interpret and translate business and functional requirements into clearly articulated work plans to ensure the system changes improve business efficiency, productivity and compliance.

About You

You will be agile and responsive, have a keen eye for detail, will deliver on tasks through effective collaboration with a range of stakeholders and can deliver innovative solutions autonomously. You will also:

  • Demonstrate substantial experience developing and implementing comprehensive automation testing regimes and procedures
  • Demonstrate experience with software release technologies and relational databases
  • Have knowledge of large-scale applications, particularly web-based and relational databases
  • Ability to collaborate and work productively within a cross functional team, including ability to engage with non-technical stakeholders

A detailed CV that clearly outlines the skills and experience you have gained in relation to the job description; and

  1. A written statement (maximum two (2) pages) addressing only the following selection criteria (SC):
  • (SC1) - Substantial experience in developing and implementing comprehensive automation testing regimes and procedures in an information systems environment.
  • (SC2) - Experience in the development of high-quality technical documentation.
  • (SC3) - Experience with software release technologies and relational databases together with a demonstrated knowledge of large-scale applications particularly with web-based applications and relational databases.
  • (SC5) - Well-developed verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to liaise, consult and negotiate with a range of stakeholders on a variety of issues.
  1. The CV must contain the complete names and contact information of two (2) referees who can provide feedback on the applicant's capacity to meet all the Essential Work-Related Requirements. At least one of the referees should be the applicant's immediate (most recent) supervisor/manager unless there are exceptional circumstances.
