The Role
Reporting to the Lead Process Safety and Risk Engineer, the Process Safety and Risk Engineer will be responsible for developing, owning, maintaining, and implementing the Safety Plans and Safety Cases for Heavy Industries product programs, insuring the design meets risk reduction to ALARP/SFAIRFP standards. You will also be responsible for the development of the processes and components of the associated Health & Safety Management System.
Key responsibilities:
- Develop, own, maintain and implement the Safety Plans and Safety Cases for Heavy Industry product programs
- Proactively engage with and influence key stakeholders including the relevant internal Process Safety, Operations, Engineering, and Health and Safety personnel or teams, the WA Regulators and mitigate risks to delivery of safety, and future safe operation of the facility
- Engage and influence the Product Design and Engineering activities to ensure that the hierarchy of controls and Safety in Design practices are implemented in products
- Perform and interpret technical risk analysis including Fire and Explosion Risk assessment and Quantitative Risk Assessment (FERA and QRA)
- Understand and apply the systems engineering methodology, tools and procedures required to complete the systems engineering tasks assigned
- Apply System Safety assessment techniques such as Bowtie/HAZID/FMEA/HAZOP/ LOPA/FTA/QRA in the design of products.
- Manage delivery and approval of the Safety Case in accordance with project schedule, and apply safety measures across multiple project stages
- Provide assurance to the project team and produce documents that demonstrate the reduction of risk to as reasonably practicable
- Additional tasks as may be required in collaboration with the Lead Process Safety and Risk Engineer
- Tertiary engineering degree or related field
- 7+ years industry experience in a similar role
- Chartered Professional Engineering accreditation is highly desirable
- Knowledge of Australian and applicable international codes and standards as well as the applicable statutory requirements.
- Experience developing, implementing, and maintaining Process Safety management systems
- Experience in risk assessment and control effectiveness activities, with specific battery-electric or Hydrogen industry experience valued.
