Job description

Our Chefs are responsible for preparing and producing high-quality confectionery products, ensuring consistency, taste, and presentation that meet New Farm Confectionery’s standards. This role requires a blend of traditional culinary skills and specialised confectionery expertise. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in pastry, dessert, or confectionery production, with a creative flair and attention to detail.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES + DUTIES

Product Preparation and Production:

  • Prepare and produce a variety of confectionery products, including chocolates, caramels, nougats, marshmallows, and brittles.

  • Follow recipes accurately and ensure all products meet the company's quality standards.

Quality Control:

  • Conduct regular quality checks on products to ensure consistency and adherence to quality standards.

  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in the kitchen.

Inventory Management:

  • Communicate well to ensure inventory of ingredients and supplies are ordered when needed.

  • Monitor and control waste to maintain cost efficiency.

Team Collaboration:

  • Work collaboratively with the kitchen team to ensure smooth operation and efficient production processes.

Health and Safety:

  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and ensure the kitchen meets local health department standards.

  • Implement and maintain safe food handling practices.

Customer Interaction:

  • Occasionally interact with customers during events or workshops, showcasing confectionery techniques and promoting New Farm Confectionery products.

SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS:

Culinary Expertise:

  • Necessary - Trade chef qualification or Pastry chef qualification (or equivalent in kitchen experience).

  • Desirable -  Proven experience as a pastry chef, or confectioner in a professional kitchen environment.

  • Desirable -  Knowledge of confectionery techniques and ingredients, including tempering chocolate and sugar work.

Attention to Detail:

  • Meticulous attention to detail in both the preparation and presentation of confectionery products.

  • Ability to follow recipes precisely and maintain consistency in product quality.

Time Management:

  • Excellent time management skills with the ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet production deadlines.

Team Player:

  • Strong team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively.

  • Willingness to provide support and training to junior kitchen staff.

Customer Service:

  • Friendly and approachable demeanour with the ability to interact positively with customers during events and workshops.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Formal culinary training or relevant certification in pastry or commercial cookery.

  • Minimum 4 years of qualified culinary experience

Working Conditions:

  • This position involves standing for extended periods and working in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
