Production Horticulturalist

Boram Farms Pty Ltd – ITF Boram Family Trust

Boram Farms Pty Ltd are seeking a full time Production Horticulturalist for our family owned and operated pistachio and citrus property located in Boundary Bend, Vic.

Tasks Involved:

· Cultivate soil, sow crops and control weeds by slashing, rotary hoeing or chemical spraying.

· Plant ground cover crops between rows of trees to control weeds and soil temperatures.

· Pruning orchard.

· Take part in harvesting operations which will involve the use of tractors, harvesters, forklifts and hand tools

· Record all chemical and fertiliser applications.

· Load and unload trucks using a forklift.

· Operate and service farm machinery and tools and perform preventative maintenance.

· Provide feedback to famer regarding issues and problems on the farm.

· Keep count of supplies and materials used and notify the farmer when it’s time to reorder.

· Direct and monitor the work of fruit pickers.

· Manual labour and heavy lifting.

Work Conditions:

Production horticulturist work can be physically demanding.  You will spend lots of your time working outdoors and during all 4 seasons.  You will need to be able to work competently in both hot and cold environments.  During peak season you will be required to work long and irregular hours.  You may be required to travel to different properties and places.

Skill Requirements:

· Certificate 3 in Production Horticulture plus 2 years experience OR 3 years experience in the occupation.

· A forklift licence is an advantage, but not essential

· Must be able to communicate fully in English (speaking & writing)

· Must have driver’s licence and own transport

Salary:

$68,000 - $70,000 plus superannuation
